Pelikan M800 by far.  Try the tortoise if you want a little colorful delight.

I have both a Visconti Van Gogh and a Pelikan 800: they are each wonderful pens, but the Pelikan definitely has the edge. It is truly a perfect writing instrument, with poise, balance and style, as well as a fantastic 18 k nib and great ink capacity.

Peter Twyddle, the English pen expert and author of a classic book on collecting fountain pens, has been selling and repairing fountain pens for his entire life: in his great work "Fountain Pens", he states his considered opinion that the Pelikan 800 Soverän is the finest pen ever made. On his recommendation, I went ahead and bought one. He is absolutely right. These are the pens against which all others must be compared.

So no doubt about it: buy a Pelikan Soverän 800 :)

The Van Gogh Self Portrait was my first fountain pen, and I loved it! I love its appearance and it does write smoothly.
