It is lush and with the yama-budo filling the barrel, it's a true pleasure with which to write.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO It's so pretty!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

The yama-budo makes all the difference. Now I start to understand the appeal of this pen that up until now seemed strange to me. Ah, is it really the ink or just your beautiful photograph....?

Thank you, Sham69. I'm wondering what the alloy is to which the plating was applied. I imagine this would impact how long the plating lasts but since yours colored so quickly, it's sounds as if there was a defect.

Thanks so much, Strombomboli. I can't wait to try other beautiful inks and am eagerly anticipating the visual impact of Akkerman Passage Blauw, among others, sliding around the barrel.

Thanks so much, Julie! Hope to see you soon. I wasn't going to come into the meeting last night anyway with the snow coming and wasn't surprised it was cancelled. Did you get a lot of snow down your way?

I love the look of Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine in the barrel of my 580 RG.

I'm glad it was moved too! It would have made a horrible trek home as the snow was already accumulating at 7P. Today was a mess but public transportation is running!

I'm glad transportation was up and running! The roads are still a mess here and it's already -2 so you know everything is going to be solid sheets of ice tomorrow morning. My son had an audition for all county orchestra (viola) tomorrow but it's been postponed, thank goodness. Stay safe and warm!

Ouch on the discoloration. How does it write?

Sham69, I'm eager to try inking mine with Apache Sunset.

Are you talking about the discoloration on the clip? Is this the replacement pen? I think it also depends on how acidic your skin is although you're not holding the cap as you would the pen when writing. Could the simple act of removing the cap cause the discoloration? I guess it depends on the level of acidity in one's system. Although our skin is naturally acidic, some people have more and this could contribute to the discoloration of anything that's plated.

I'd also love to know how it writes with that Binderized nib and the Montblanc is lovely, too!

The nib is great, so happy with it I would love to send more to Richard but it is quite an expense with the shipping to the US and return; only regret is not trying the famous Binder ItaliFine but I will one day. When I am after another Pelikan Richard will be my man though. There is an Australian nibmeister not far who i am going to give a try apparently he does excellent work also.

Hmm perhaps my body is made of acid! I am worried about putting on the new rose gold parts in fear that they same thing will happen again. I will soon though; perhaps it is as simple as not holding the cap in my hand, however I don't do that very often anyway so strange that could cause it. Who knows perhaps my pen was just a dud, I haven't heard of any others.

Perhaps the rose gold plating was improperly applied. That could very well have been the case.

If you really want to get serious, you could buy some litmus paper and test your pH. It might be a matter of adding more foods that are alkaline in nature to your diet to combat high levels of acidity. I say this all in jest! How far will we go for our pens? ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
