LA Pen Show

Recommended Posts

Just wondering who among you is planning to attend the Los Angeles Pen Show? I'm getting packed up for the drive down to LA. A Bigger job than I expected. Finally re-separating "my collection" from "my inventory". Will be bringing items from "my inventory" - up to 200 Wahl-Eversharp items rounded up so far. Judi will be showing her newest line of Memories ala Card all purpose photo cards made with Strathmore greeting card stock - great for writing on with fountain pens.

We are looking forward to seeing other Wahlnuts there. Look for Judi and me at the Pensbury Manor tables. We will be looking for you.

I'll be there Friday through Sunday. I'm looking forward to seeing your "stock." I haven't a Whal-Eversharp.

Yet.

See you there!

I will go, and look for your guys, Syd and David. I am new (relative) to Sheaffer and Wahl-Eversharp collections, and will be merely a spectator for the Show (I live in Boston). But I hope to be able to learn from you guys.

I was able to get up to the show for a while on Friday and Saturday- another great one!

Had a chance to chat briefly with Syd about Bantams and David about (what else) Vacs- including the two incredible (won't reveal the secret) pens he picked up.

In the Wahl arena, I picked up a blue Century of Progress Bantam set (my first CoP pencil) and a gorgeous stenographer's pen. Is it possible to straighten these ~safely?

I believe I saw Andy, but didn't get a chance to say hi.

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Hi Greg,

I hope you'll post a pic of the blue CoP set. I have only seen them in red. Swell little pens, those Bantams.

Exuberance is beauty.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
