Newton Pens Scholarship - December Raffle - Two Pens!

Newton Pens

Recommended Posts

Happy Holidays!

This month instead of one pen going out – there will be TWO. So far you’ve all raised $3194 to give away to several lucky students! Thank you all so much! And the year is only half done! http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif?m=1129645325g

One pen made by myself, and the other a pen donated by a friend from FPN specifically for the scholarship. Thanks!

What will I be making? I don’t know – that’s up to the winner. The only restriction is that it needs to be made from one of these cool materials shown below. Well – you don’t HAVE to pick one of these – but they sure are pretty. :) If you do choose any of these, there are size restrictions due to the diameter of some of the rods. We’ll discuss that once there’s a winner. http://s1.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif?m=1129645325g

Here they are…

First up – a couple of Italian acrylics. Blue Cowrie and Venetian Gold.http://newtonpens.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/december-raffle-4.jpg?w=584&h=438

Then some Sheaffer rods! These are leftovers from the Balance II pens Sheaffer made in the late 90s. Marbled Amber Glow, Marbled Cobalt Glow, and Jungle Green.

Sheaffer Tiger Eye.

I don’t know what to call these except awesome. Black and white chunk casein, Tiffany casein, and yellow and green casein. Or maybe tan and green? There’s only a little bit of each of these and we’re limited with what can be made, but we’ll discuss that when somebody wins. http://s1.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif?m=1129645325g

And here’s one I think will look cool. It’s a new black and sand ripple ebonite. This can be paired with black, or with solid sand for really cool effect either way.

And I even have a tiny bit of purple web celluloid left over. http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif?m=1129645325g http://newtonpens.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/december-raffle-3.jpg?w=584&h=438

What’s that second pen? An Edison Pearl in purple web celluloid.

Very Cool! Here it is.

http://newtonpens.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/edison-pearl-5.jpg?w=584&h=294

It comes with a 1.1 two tone steel nib.

http://newtonpens.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/edison-pearl-1.jpg?w=584&h=438

The nib choice is totally up to the winner as well. You can choose steel, any tip size, any grind, or 18k gold, any tip size, any grind. The winner will have the option of taking the gold nib with the cost coming out of the raffle winnings, paying for the gold nib, or taking a steel nib. Even if you choose to pay for the gold nib, it's a great deal.

The Pearl will go as is with the included nib. Brian Gray sells extra nibs here if you want to replace it later.

Ooh. I should have been more clear. :)

One number drawn, one winner gets all.

One winner to get two pens, and at their leisure, use them. :P

80 tickets sold! Woot! :D

Whoa - that should have been "8" tickets sold. Yikes.

15 tickets sold already.

Thank you all so much!

:D

I kind of wondered about that. First that you sold 80 in the first hour and then that they disappeared.

Hi Everybody,

I just want to say thanks for all of the participation in the raffles so far – and remember there’s only three more days for the current one. Two pens, one winner!

http://newtonpens.wordpress.com/2013/12/08/december-raffle-for-2014-scholarship/

I also want to announce that I’m extending the deadline to turn in scholarship applications until March 1st of 2014 so more of you have time to get these in. If you know a senior who could really use the extra few bucks to help them get started with college, let them know about this. It’s open to anyone in the US. Recipients’ schools will be contacted and money will be handed out once students are enrolled and attending. Money can be spent on technology, food, books, gas, shoes, art supplies, car repairs, or whatever else they need to keep going. http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif?m=1129645325g

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
