Help: Looking For 50's Ballpoint Pen Refill

Hello everyone!

I am quite annoyed. I purchased a 50's Mont Blanc ballpoint pen some time ago and I'm having a hard time finding the good refill.

When i got it, it came along with a Schneider Express 225 Fine refill which plastic bottom had been cut out in order to make its length fit the pen's body. It fitted perfectly but soon ran out of ink. I then learnt the Express 225 Fine refills are no longer produced and purchased a Medium size, thinking it would fit in anyway.

But it didn't: the nib and pre-nib circumferences are a bit too large. The refill easily gets blocked when I am using the pen, and I have to push real hard on the lever to make itget out and again push real hard on the nib to make it get back in. I enclosed pictures of the pen and refill for your information.

I am just causing damages to the pen and need help to find the good refill.

What do you think? Which refill could match it?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Hi, I don't own any of the refills made by Schneider, but I do have this Waterman refill, and have measured it for the photo.

The blue plastic part at the top is hollow and could be cut down if required.

This is a current Waterman refill and is available in our stationary shops in most high streets.

Seems quite suitable to me! The length looks good, what about the nib? Is it a Fine or Medium one? Anyway I will try that, thanks a lot for your help!

If there are other propositions, I will be happy to know. The more I will get, the more chances to find the perfect refill!

Have you contact MB and asked what refills are available?

Yes I did but they couldn't find any matching refill in their stock and quickly gave up. Although I went to their Paris main store, I felt like I was just making them lose their time, it was a very unpleasant experience.

One of the employees even said this was a fake, arguing they never produced a lever-type ballpoint pen. Well they actually did, i got some proves. Obviously he just learnt about the most modern MB models and assumed any other would be a fake. Quite insulting when you're told this in a store full of customers!

Bonjour Pelikan Vera,

Thanks a lot for your help!! However these are the Medium refills. I already bought some but they are a bit too large to fit the pen... The best would be a Fine refill but I contacted Schneider and they told me they stopped producing this size.

If you have any other idea, I will be glad to know!

Thanks again!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
