Pencopen Info

Hello all,

I have my eye on a Pencopen brand pen at a local shop here in town. I am having a hard time finding out much information about this brand. I have read some other threads discussing this brand and it sounds like Pencopen was a re branded Parker. It does look very much like a Parkette although it is a Bulb Filler. It needs a new sac/bulb and a bit of cleanup. The nib looks nice and body has wear from use but no cracks or major flaws. I really like the look of this old pen, it's a grey, black, and red marble looking very much like the Parkettes pictured here:

At first I thought this was just a no name knockoff but now that it might be a Parker re brand I am quite interested in it. I'm wondering if $25.00 is too much to pay for this pen that will need a bit of restoration. Would you pay $25 or try and negotiate with the seller for a better price?

Thanks for any info or replies!

So I didn't get any feed back on this so I threw caution to the wind and bought the pen after work yesterday. I negotiated the price down explaining to them all the defects and problems with the pen. I'm happy with the purchase and will have fun restoring this pen. It's got a firm nib and the dip test was very smooth. It's got a 1935 date code on the nib. It has a Pencopen engraving on the side but it has lost the coloring in the engraving. I was a little disappointed to notice that one of the two metal rings near the bottom of the cap fell off somewhere between the antique store, my car, the post office, and home. Has anyone ever replaced decorative metal bands on pens?

Here's some pics, I've got some restoration to do for sure:

Very cool Pen, Brotzmann,

I don't know if you've seen this or not, but very lively thread about Penco Pens as a Parker sub- brand.

This is the stuff that makes collecting and restoring these so much fun! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! That is an interesting thread. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on this brand. I'm going to try and dig a little deeper with my internet searches this weekend.

  • 4 years later...

From what I could gather, Penco (made in USA, not to be confused with Pen-co an Italian company) is not a sub brand of Parker. The company is now known as JCPENNEY. I have a Penco (eyedropper/syringe) filler type. Was manufactured for a couple years around 1920's - early 1930's. Source: http://www.richardspens.com/index_m.html?page=ref/glossary/P.htm

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
