I was just reading a thread the other day and thought of how much I missed Tom's advice and knowledge. He sure helped me out a lot when I was just getting into collecting and repairing pens. I also miss Tom because of his love for and caring about America. Offering a hand salute in remembrance.

A consumer and purveyor of words.

Still miss Tom's "to the point" postings, written in his typical humorfull approach.

Surely a good man which is missed by all of us.

Still not forgotten.

You all are so sweet for your thoughts and prayers, and the website is indeed still up. I wish I knew how to restore pens, all I know is basic maintenance, brands, and models. And with my school schedule I wouldn't have much time to work on the pens regardless.Thank you all so much, I'm sure you're prayers have contributed greatly to the calm that's been passing through our house recently. Thank all of you so much.

Mari, thank you for keeping the website up and your wonderful photography. Tom will always be in our hearts and is smiling.

Please visit Mari's website and sign her guestbook - great images!

When I was a new memeber here, Tom was always gracious and willing to lend a hand.

He is missed!

One of the great things about having Tom repair a pen was his phone call once he had figured out a problem: "When I got the pen open, you'll never guess what I found..." and a large laugh.

Stevesurf, thank you for sharing Mari's picture page!

Very talented!

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
