OK, I will check calendars and propose some dates shortly. Assuming we will meet on a weekend, what are your preferences: Saturday or Sunday? Early or Late?

Central Jersey is an hour from me, for winter time I wish to have an earlier meeting so for those who has a longer drive can hit the road before the sun comes down. Does early afternoon work for anybody?

There are two Sundays in December that are distant enough from either Thanksgiving or Christmas that they would not pose conflicts with either holiday: Sunday, December 8th or the following Sunday, December 15th. I can reserve our conference room on either day. I would probably plan on holding the event between 1 and 3 pm. Again, our offices are in downtown Princeton. Everyone please give me a sense of your preferences and I will supply the directions

I am in Northern Jersey, Ridgewood in Bergen County. There seems to be a higher concentration of people in southern Jersey. However I would be happy to try to meet up - and a saloon sounds just fine to me :) The December dates could be a problem with so many activities going n between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Everyone,

I've conferred with Manny ("GClef"), whose earlier post put this whole thing in motion, and am offering the use of my office conference room for our first NJ Pen Posse (or whatever its to be called) gathering on Sunday, December 8th from 1:00 pm to approximately 3:00 pm. Our offices are in downtown Princeton, NJ, which should be equally convenient (or inconvenient, depending on how you look at it), for those folks traveling from North or South Jersey, or even Philly.

I'd like to get a headcount so I can make sure the room can accommodate everyone (just in case), and also to allow me to check people in to the building, which is normally locked on Sundays. So, if you are fairly certain that you will be attending please send me a message through FPN, provide me with your name and with a phone number where you can reliably be contacted in case plans should change at the last minute. I will respond to each message with an exact address and instructions regarding parking and admittance to the building.

I'd expect that Manny and many of you will have ideas about what you would like to do at this first meeting. At the Philly Pen Club meetings "members" brought pens to show & tell and to sell or trade, and also inks and papers for others to sample. What would you like to happen?

I am looking forward to this first meeting!

Drats! That's my call weekend unfortunately so I'll have to be counted out. Sounds like it should be a good time though. Hopefully you guys can report back afterwards.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
