Please Show Your Nakaya Pen Personalisation

Dear members,

I am a FPN noobie, and also in many respects a fountain pen noobie, so please guide me or correct me if you don't see any of what I write fit.

I have always liked Japanese pens but unfortunately only recently have I really started buying more of them.

Nakaya brand has now totally fascinated me so I made an initial order- nothing special- just a piccolo in kyoki.

In terms of personalising the pen or adding 'spice to it' I could not be to imainative. Inspired by one of the members here I've asked them to imprint or makienise a Chinese character on the upper grip section of the pen. I tried searching the web to see what other people do or did but only limited information was available.

So would you please help me and other more inexperienced Nakaya fans to be more creative by sharing your treasures and showing your personal touch to the pen?

Thank you in advance.

I chose Kanji that represented important ideas for me... so I have (with as close a translation as I could come up with):

名誉 (Meiyo), honor
知 (chie) Wisdom
義 (Gi) righteousness, justice, morality, honor, loyalty, meaning

Thanks for sharing your picture.

Those golden letters look lovely against the aka tenemuri background!

I understand that Nakaya allows up to three letters. Did you ask them specially to place 4 letters?

And do you know if you are able to dictate the size/ thickness of the letters outside their specifications?

Thank you :)

Hi!

They allowed up to 4 unless that has changed recently?

As to control over lettering...it is all theirs as it is reportedly hand done by individual craftspeople? I am very happy with my result.

From the moment I first saw it on the Nakaya website, I coveted the 'cherry blossoms in the stream roll stopper'. Nakaya had placed it on piccolos, and the base model. I thought that it would look better on a Neo Standard. So, that is what I ordered, in Ama-iro, with rhodium plated nib, to match the roll stopper. In the spirit of the cherry blossom festival, I chose 'mono no aware' for the kanji.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
