Eyedoc, Mike_Dowling, and Guy007, your tips are all good.. btw, I'm on speaking terms with either Regina, Lai, or printhardcopy. I can get a mate's rate easily from them. Shame that good tips of your are burried under these one liner moving targets.

PS: Beyond dollar, if I were in the US I'd probably just contact Rick Propas anyway! Cheers.

Well it certainly sounds like you are well connected!! You should have no trouble then sourcing a M1005 at a nice price.....

Mock their suggestions if you like.

Mock? That was a compliment. Please, if you could just move beyond yourself and onto the real issue here, which is getting a bargain M1000 for everyone, perhaps you could read properly. Potluck bragging means stuff all to the rest of us, really.

Shopping carefully, I bought a near new M1000 on ebay for $265. Sold it for the same.

So don't say there's no such thing as a free lunch...

To be honest, I would not sell my NIB M1000 OM for less than 400,- $ - so let's see what the classifieds show when I am back from holiday...

There are no facts, there is no truth - just a data to be manipulated...

Everyone has different relationships with different dealers (or maybe not) and are looking for different things : free shipping, fast and tracked shipping, non ebay, from a B&M store, don't need a box, need original box, cheap price, from a nibmeister, customs/import consideration, used, new, currency conversion et al...

Only the buyer can answer what is important to them, if the suggestions help other people, well that's great :-).

It's all good from my point of view.

nibs.com, morastylos.com or richardspens.com

+1 on Regina and martinauctions on Ebay. She lists her pens as "Clearance..." Great communication, she changes out the nibs on request, and has very prompt delivery from Germany. Very happy with her service and, thanks to the "auction-ness", a great price!

Cult Pens in the UK...$426 at today's exchange rate plus roughly $18 insured shipping. Great folks to deal with and they e-mail you every step of the way. They're an authorized Pelikan retailer in case warranty work is required. But I haven't had issues with new Pelikan 800s nor 1000s.

When I looked at the difference in price between CultPens and a stateside nibmeister, I decided the price difference was worth the risk. Because there isn't any real risk...the pen's being bought from an authorized retailer so the warranty remains in effect and Pelikan swaps nibs for 30? days. Plus, my Pelikans have been very reliable out of the box so I wasn't really concerned anyway.

I always get a kick out of these "no affiliation" notations when it's blatantly obvious the poster has absolutely nothing to do with the brand, company, etc. beyond being a customer. It must be a feel-good/feel-important thing. So I'll note up front that nothing I write here on this forum is influenced by any financial-gain motivation.

Another vote for Martini Auctions. Just to be clear, she has both her own site as well as posting on ebay. I've bought several pens from her and have been very pleased. Good prices, great service.

To also put in context, if you do want your nib looked at from say nibs.com if you didn't buy the pen there, you will pay $30 looking fee + $15/20 config fee ( or alligning ) + the cost of shipping there and back.

So if you are unhappy with a nib, you are looking at $50 + shipping for fixing... oh and up to 6 months return as orders on from them take priority and there is only one person to do the work. If you want it done sooner, you pay double, so $100+. I don't think Richard Binder offers this service anymore and I am am unsure of who else does.

Another factor to put in the equation is that if you are stateside and purchase overseas and you need any warranty repair or a nib exchange you will have to send the pen back to Pelikan in Germany. Chartpak only will deal with pens bought from an authorized dealer in North America.

Amazon has a fine nib black M1000 for £284.29 ....

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
