The Parker 125

Hey there!

I figured that, with a few here who use and appreciate fountain pens, then there might be some who have been (or, will be?) invited to receive a Parker 125. I haven't seen a lot of details about it, but the following is the invite (and click to see a larger view - the order of the images is from left to right, top to bottom):

http://imageshack.us/a/img9/4091/z46o.th.png

With only 125 of these handmade (and flawless?) specimens, I was hoping someone here would be selected (if this invitation is indeed a real item from Parker), and tell more about it. Or, is this still something to happen sometime in the near future?!? How do you think Parker chose those to be recipients of the Parker 125? If they're good reviewers, or if they spend a lot on Parker pens?

Also, what do you think would comprise such a "best" writing instrument? And, with whatever features the best pen would include, is that something Parker could create?

Anyway, not sure of the authenticity of the document* (the text on the signed page is a little suspicious; why would the 125 people already be selected, and yet, you can call someone personally at 9606513431 to join the 125?!?), and the 960 number seems to indicate the Maldives, but I just thought I'd pick your brain about the deal.

This sounds interesting a new Parker to celibate 125 years. I presume it's going to cost a small fortune. However wasn't the Mandarin Duofold released to do this? However it would be nice if they would release a book on the 125 years of Parker as I would happily buy it as I would really enjoy reading it.

The several page designs posted to the Web are rather odd. For one thing, the company wasn't founded by anyone called "George Strafford." It was founded by George Safford Parker. I'd like to think the Parker Pen Company knows the name of its founder. So let's say that what we are given to look at just might be a designer's rough, but it certainly isn't a representation of anything sent out by the company.

Another point is that if one inputs "Parker 125 fountain pen" in a Google search window, the results mention various 125th anniversary pens manufactured by Parker but are curiously without any mention of a Parker 125 fountain pen. The parkerpens Web site is also silent about a Parker 125 pen, although it invites thoughtful people to express themselves on this momentous occasion and it offers various 125th anniversary pens.

Naturally, I am trying to keep an open mind about whether we might have to do with the Illuminati, the Freemasons, the Rosicrucians, the Bilderberg Group, or the writing-instrument division of al-Qaeda.

Well, I was googling for Parker 125th anniversary news/events/items, and that invite was one of the hits. Was hoping that it was some new, cool writing instrument...

Thanks! The additional pairs of eyes put the info into proper perspective.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
