The "montblanc Pen Of Disloyalty And Treachery"

The listing is still not getting a lot of bids. Now he is putting a picture of his Russian adopted daughter on the post to say she will get procedes from sale. Also selling a big stash of playboy mags. It just gets stranger and stranger.

And she has a twin brother now as well. No mention of whether her brother is Russian or not.

Condition: Used :

Seller Notes: “The only thing wrong with this pen is the top doesn't screw on very well anymore because the threads are worn. Other than that it writes as well as the day my former friend and disloyal SOB gave it to me in 2005 for Christmas.”

Starwalkers do not usually worn to the point that the cap doesn't screw well... I would not bid on this.

I just read the updated information that the seller posted (it's around 20 minutes to midnight EDT, on August 20) and the price is up to $69. I'm almost tempted to check on the bidding history -- wonder if the "SOB" who gave the seller the pen in the first place is trying to get it back.... Also wondering if the increased bidding activity is due to the pen or the magazines; my brother was friends in college with the son of the guy who published the magazine Hustler -- and and Rob's friend's dad got charged with distributing porn (by the USPS, IIRC).

Also, I'm not sure that "incredibler" is really a word.

Real or fake, this listing sure is entertaining. Good thing I don't want a Montblanc -- I read some of the commentary on here (and the seller's updated information) to my husband just now and he was afraid I was going to put in a bid....

I know! :eureka: The way to REALLY make money on this deal is to set up a concession stand and sell popcorn to the spectators! I bet I'd make even more money than I'd stand to gain from my plot to sell popcorn at the Great "Break into Nathan Tardif's house fortress with the killer catfish in the moat, to find the safe with the LE ebonite pens" Caper that was planned awhile back on some other thread....

(Obviously I have not gotten nearly enough sleep the last couple of days and my brain has gone into serious overdrive... which is kinda bad because I have to take one of the cars in for service tomorrow morning....)

Okay, my first impressions as I looked at this pen - FAKE, FAKE, FAKE!

Looking more closely at the images reinforced that initial thought. Also when I saw the clip it reminded me of a "Mock Blanc" I bought at a pen show years ago. I knew it was a fake because it was $20.00. I bought it because I like the way it looked and the way it wrote AND it had the little star on the top to fool other, less knowledgeable people into thinking I was cool - LOL!

The nib definitely looks schlocky and of poor quality. The issue of which cartridge to use sets off Major Alarms and the "story" sounds as if it contains poor quality fertilizer intended to grow undesirable weeds.

And on the other hand, I could be wrong - BUT, I'll wager I am correct in my assessment.

+1 on the nib being suspicious. Even if the story is true, the source of the pen is suspect, so everyone should be on their guard. We do know there are convincing replicas of Starwalkers out there. The nib engravings look better on this "replica" (aka fraudulent copy)

Of course for all I know, those are pictures of an authentic Starwalker, and if you buy one of the "replicas", it doesn't look quite like that.

This listing is becoming less interesting as a pen sale and more interesting as a peek into the psyche of a very strange person.

Looking closely at the pictures on the listing and comparing them to the picture on the Montblanc site http://www.montblanc.com/en/brand/writing-instruments/unisex/starwalker/black-resin-platinum/platinum-plated-resin-fountain-pen-08482.aspx it seems that there is no ring at the bottom of the cap.

My guess would be that the pen is a fake, and the story is a ploy to sell the pen.

And now the heartbreaking follow-up with the adopted daughter who gets all the funds...

I'm really tempted to bid.

Nah.

Greetings,

Michael

Traitorous friend

Adopted daughter

Proceeds from the auction go to daughter who "had a brown recluse spider bite that transitioned to nasty and disgusting phase last Friday"

Interesting.. what next? He turning into a vampire and will bite whoever will not bid?!!

If he is trying to raise funds, he will do much better telling stories (fiction).

The brown recluse spider drifted in on some driftwood from Japan. The wood originated from a dock near the Fukushima nuke plant. The spider developed a mutant virus while rafting across the Pacific. The "nasty and disgusting" phase is the final transition of the daughter into a zombie.

At which point the pen will be withdrawn from sale as needed to stake the zombies...

Maybe there is a hidden clue in the description of the threads being worn...perhaps due to too much screwing, but enough left for one more try on eBay?

A number of years ago I was looking at an issue of _Spiderman_. Someone wrote in complaining about having gotten him(?) self bitten by a radioactive spider, but did *not* turn into a supehero!

Stan Lee's someone laconic response was something along the lines of "Oh, sorry, we forgot to mention that you have to *also* be pure of heart...."

Have not looked at that listing today. It's been a really cr*ppy morning of fighting with my ISP (because they're apparently goobers who never heard of the concept of unit testing OR good customer support -- i.e., *contacting* their customers about major changes which might mean I have to radically change my password....). I used a few four letter words during the 40 minutes I was on the phone -- mostly on hold -- the F-bomb I dropped (more than once, and with two *different* techies) was FIOS....

What's the current price of the PoTaD now? And any new iterations or addenda from the seller? It's been quite entertaining -- if not completely believable at this point. (Posting this around noon EDT on Aug. 22....)

Although, actually, the most unbelievable part is probably that we're still talking about this and NOT selling popcorn....

I thought radioactive spider bites were supposed to turn people into superheroes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
