Hello Everyone

This is Touzeen from India from the City of Chennai. Im a Surgical Resident and just got into Fountain Pens in the past 6months.

Used to write with FPs in school but then by High School ballpoint pens seems to be more interesting for the yound mind. And for the grown up mind nothing is as personal, inspiring and rewarding as a Fountain Pen.

When I joined my Surgical Residency, one of my professor was an avid FP user and this made me change onto Fountain Pens again.

First one I got was a Parker Frontier Stainless Steel(incidentally found out this was the first FP of the great Dr.S.B.R.E Brown too) Other notable pens I currently own are:

Platignum Vibe in Medium

Lamy 2000 in Broad

Cross Century II

and about 5-6 indian branded FPs (which I might end up writing about here)

Currently eyeing the Sailor 1911 and my Fantasy Pen is the Caran d'Ache 1010

About inks,we get Private Reserve,Caran d'Ache Color of the Earth,MB,Monteverde,Lamy,Sheaffer Skrip,Sailor Jentle readily here.

My current everyday ink is P.R Black Magic Blue and Pelikan Brilliant Black.

Other inks for lesser usage:Caran d'Ache Saffron,P.R Orange Crush,Skrip Purple,Pelikan Brilliant Red/Green.

Thanks for reading, hope to contribute a bit to this forum.

Hi Touzeen, and :W2FPN:

You seem well on your way to become a FP afficionado.

Many doctors seem to like fountainpens.

For me the pen forces me to write the patients history with more care.

Enjoy the forum

Welcome, Doctor !

I am familiar with a couple of the same pens that you own. I especially like the LAMY 2000.

I am enjoying a fascination with pens of India, especially the very basic ones. .

Welcome to FPN! : )

What colors of Private Reserve ink do you use? I like American Blue since it is similar to Parker Penman Sapphire.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
