I usually use Waterman Purple instead.

 

Coincidentally, me, too! :) However, if you want water resistance...

Thank you all. Looks like it was a good topic to bring up. And here I thought Private Reserve was ok. I appreciate that we will have to have sacs replaced from time to time, it is better to keep the replacement cycle down to a dull roar.

Would you consider using J. Herbin Bleu Ocean 1670 in a Parker Vacumatic? Getting one in today and I love the ink but don't won't to mess up the pen.

I would feel perfectly safe using the original formulation, but would steer clear of the reformulation with the gold flecks in anything other than a cartridge/converter pen and only those that can be completely disassembled for thorough cleaning.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
