Pilot Elite 95S Black Ef

Recommended Posts

This review is a sequel to my Review of the 95S in Deep Red, The pen in this review is essentially the same as the other pen but for the color and nib size.

The model documented here is the FES-1MM-B-EF

Super impressed with the Elite, I ended up ordering a few more, this Black EF for me and a Black F for a very good friend (also an FPNer).

Same Packaging:

The nibs:

The M nib has seen a few weeks of use, the EF is pristine.

The tipping:

the EF is so much smaller than the M, really Pilot precision:notworthy1:

The black has such a glossy captop.

Hari:

These are such beautiful pens, and your reviews come very close to making them irresistible. If I didn't already have a Platinum pocket pen with a wonderful semiflex nib, I would be doomed here.

Hi Ron, Thanks! Before I bought these new Elites, the only Pilot pocket pens that I had were the so called Pilot "Short" pens that are telescopic. These used to be available very cheap in Mumbai, around 6USD each with tiny but 14K gold nibs that were flexy more often than not. I am happy to see that Pilot has not lost its touch in making superb pens. I hope they remain this way. I think you should try one Elite 95S.

Hmmm.

I am surprised why the Elite 95S is not more widely available. Other than a lone seller on Rakuten and Engeika through his website not ebay, not many more are carrying the pen. Thankfully my seller in Japan is pretty much able to source any pen and ship it in a day or two of ordering.

I have been advised that my third order placed today is going to be slightly delayed due to the impending Japanese mid August holidays.

Hari...received my Pilot Elite F yesterday...thanks for taking all the trouble...I dip tested it today and it puts out a nice fine line...slightly finer than the Pelikan M800 F nib, a pen I am currently using...I then inserted the converter and filled it with Pelikan Brilliant Black ink...the flow is superb...and I wrote about half a page...nice deceptive looking pen, but once you post it, it comes into its own...grip, balance, all good...I always love the black and gold combination...

Jai

Hey Hari, thanks again for the wonderful review and pics. I was wondering, does it this work with a c/c as well? If it does, is it included? I saw only a cartridge in your other review. I won't get it if its only a cartridge only. If it fits a c/c, is it very small?

One other this, which feels more..premium to you? I think the black looks classier (of course, I know YMMV but still) but I like the red one too..Just wondering if the red one's cap feels a bit aluminiumy..(ie feels cheap)

Thanks!

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

Yes, this works with converter. ONLY the CON-20 will fit the pen. Converter was not included but it is a 5USD item, easily ordered as an extra item.

I like both, that's why i have both :) , in the hand, the black feels and looks more classy, the red looks casual... Both pens have identical construction with double anodised aluminum caps and there is no feeling of cheapness at all.

Thanks for that, answers all my question! :) Think I'll go for a black one

Nice review. I have found an Elite for $75 (vintage) or the 95S for $90. The vintage one is 18K, whereas the 95S is 14K. Is the $15 worth being new?

Somehow I know I want one of these?

Is there anything specific to watch for to tell me it's a good pen and a good deal?

How do you find the line width and flex/softness of the nib? Do you know if it's similar to the vanishing point EF?

Do you feel some cushioning by the nib or is it more a nail?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
