New Wahl-Eversharp Wahlberry Ink

Recommended Posts

In another post on the FPN WAHL-EVERSHARP forum and on the Zoss list recently, I mentioned that we were bringing out a "signature" ink for our pen line and that the ink was formulated for use in our Wahl-Eversharp Pens.

One of my learned friends suggested that posting to the Ink fora might be good etiquette at least, and good for the hobby at best. While we do not intend to become a major ink supplier, nor to expand our colors too far in the future, tonight, as a news item at least, I am posting a scan of the swab tests for the various formulae we were zeroing in on. I like inks that lean toward the red side of blue. I also like inks that shade well but have enough intensity to retain their strong color under 'normal' writing.

Some folks are aware that Wahl and Eversharp nibs are perhaps singularly most known for their flexibility. It has been a quest of mine/ours to find inks that work well with nibs and ink delivery systems such as ours. So we worked on developing our own ink to to just that. So our new Signature Color is named "WAHLBERRY" It's the one in the middle of the swab tests shown below. We plan to premier the ink at the Washington DC Super Show, August 8-12. It will be given away with each new WAHL-EVERSHARP pen sold at the show.

I plan to submit a writing sample in a day or so.

To my ink Forum friends: I've been focused on the pens for so long now that I may not know the best places to post about the ink, but am certain our own FPN fora are a top choice to start. Any advice received from the Ink community will be welcome.

Way to go, Syd.

When you show us the writing samples, please post a pic of the bottle and the label.

Not being a "professional ink tester, I hope this attempt demonstrates the characteristics nicely.

Well now that looks very promising indeed!

I have to ask... is it the angle of the picture or is that a sheen I see in it ?

It kind of has that J.Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite look about it ...

It does not have the sheen you mention on the paper I am using. I think the swab test shown shows an overstrike on the top-most stroke that leaves a small area of the first stroke visible and that may look like a sheen?

This looks great. I love purple inks. Up until one of them went moldy on me, I had three.

Is there any reason you wouldn't want to use this ink in a non W-E pen?

Update on the color. The Final Final Color that was arrived at and which was unveiled at the Washington DC Super-show was slightly modified to be a little more blue and a little less red/purple. It still has the intensity, and the edginess that we like but migrated more to the blue side. The first 48 bottles of the final final ink was given away with each new WAHL-EVERSHARP pen sold at the show. While we did not intend to sell any and planned to make it a give away, 2 folks who did not want a pen prevailed and we did sell two bottles. It was also our tester ink for people to use at our table for new and vintage pens. many people come by to try/buy a super flex pen (that Wahl was so well known for) and the ink was just perfect to show off the shading the super flexes nibs can do.

In a day or so I will have the time to revise the writing sample at is shown above, and you will see that the final WAHlBERRY is a real neat and unique color.

Here is the writing test scan of the final final WAHLBERRY Ink as it was delivered to pen purchasers at the DC Show. Everyone who used it was very happy with it. What do you think?

I preferred the earlier version, but I'm sure others disagree.

I like both. Lets see what others think and if we get a split jury, maybe we'll end up with 2 colors: WAHLEBBRY (Bluer) and EVERBERRY (Purpler)

Yea me too ... I think thats a great idea being there is enough difference between the 2 colors.

Everberry... good name too!

Being a literalist, the various places I get feedback from are running 2 to1 for WAHLBERRY, so I am about to make my next inks batch 1/3 bottles of EVERBERRY, and 2/3 bottles of WAHLBERRY. Next I think I'll work on a "Signature Paper"...hmmm what name for that? WAHLPAPER!

They're both gorgeous. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the final one. Just lovely.

Thread revival, but this at least merits a laugh XD

Doing research on Wahl inks since there's a local distributor now, and I'm considering one of the new Skylines, haha. Anyway, the info on this page was helpful; I'm more an Everberry than a Wahlberry, I think, but since I have a lot of blue inks already, the Wahlberry's looking pretty good!

Cheers!

Yes, "Wahlpaper" definitely deserves a :lticaptd: .

I'm glad you made both inks available, I've just ordered on of each for my growing collection of vintage Wahl pens. Oh how I crave the Speed Red Skyliner 50! With a matching red ink, of course. Hint hint.

These are beautiful!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Agreed! I got a complementary bottle of Everberry with my newly purchased Skyline Technik, and it's a really velvety looking ink with a bit of shading and some sheen, even! I'll be getting several bottles of this XD

Cheers!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
