Waiting On A Pen

Six weeks ago I ordered a Pelikan M200 clear demonstrator at my local B&M store. I thought it was nice to support the local industry and didn`t mind having to wait one or two weeks for the pen to arrive. At least that was what they told me, that it would take one or twoo weeks until the pen was there. Now six weeks are over and they haven`t got the pen yet and I`m hearing another excuse each week I go there to check for it. To top it all off: last week I got a phonecall from them, telling me it was there. When I arrived at the shop they happily presented me....ta-dah....a Pilot G2 gel pen!!! They had mixed me up with another customer. Now I still got no M200 demo and can wait at least another week for they`re getting their new stuff only on thursdays. I`m pretty frustrated about this. I just wanted to do something good and get a nice fountain pen. I have a bad feeling about this now. It takes way too long. I have emailed Pelikan before I placed my order to make sure the demonstrator is still in production. Pelikan said that it was and ordering one would be no problem. So what now?

Greetings,

Did you pay for it in advance?

Without more information, I would assume any store that confused a Pelikan M200 and a Pilot G2 pen to be totally incompenent when it comes to matters of pens. If you haven't paid, just go somewhere else.

But my assumption is, since you've stuck it out, that they have some of your money. At this point I'd demand my money back. They have upheld no part of the agreement between customer and store. They've been wrong 200% wrong on their time estimate, and then caused you to come into the store due to gross incompetence.

Seriously, in six weeks you could have walked to the Pelikan factory, picked up a pen and walked back.

It's great to support "mom and pop" stores, but this is America, there is a reason the big name companies, GOT big..

Amazon for example, would have refunded your money, gave you the pen still for free and a coupon for free ink of your choice.

I'm exaggerating but not by much. Mom and pop shops will fight with you, rather then make you happy

Maybe your shop can't get it because the big online companies have them all.

I've been similarly frustrated by going to local shops for various items (I'm in a small town) when I could have purchased online from my desk at work. If you can find a little local shop with good service you are truly fortunate, but frequently they are plagued buy poorly trained staff, low turnover and therefore low inventory. With low inventory comes difficulty getting items from their suppliers. The Pelikan m200 demonstrator is in stock at Fahrney's and I'm sure there are other online places that have it as well. You could even do overnight shipping. I'd cancel my order and ask for my money back if the pen isn't in the store today and then do a quick Google search for the best price. You tried to work with them and they failed.

I have my favourite penshop, whenever there is an item they can't deliver There is the internet. Once the itel found on the net, I cancel the order in the shop.

That is way too unacceptably wrong. I don't know if you have prior experience with the shop you ordered your pen from, but for them to hang you out to dry like this is not right to me. I would suggest you cancel your order and/or take your money back.

Good Luck

Thanks for your answers. Unfortunately I have already payed the price they asked for the pen. They won`t cancel the order and give me my money back, so I have to wait. It`s the last time that I bought anything in their shop. I hope the right pen will arrive before Christmas and that it comes to me undamaged. I have made the big mistake to transfer my good experience with a mom and pop music shop to this office supplier.

Silly me.

Mom and Pop stores are like any other variety - they vary. They vary in their attitudes, in the help they can hire, and in how suppliers treat them. Concerning another, non-FP interest, I've sometimes tried to buy things locally only to discover that they can't get it for me if they want to because every time they order from a given supplier they have to spend over five hundred or more on new inventory - well, if I am willing to pay them the fifty or one hundred dollars for what I wanted, but they'd have to bring in significantly more inventory just to get it for me, unless they do an extremely brisk business the fact is that they can't.

However, they should know what they can get, and be upfront. So I say your local fails on the grounds of not knowing, not keeping you informed, and not caring - but that is by no means true of all local stores, you just have to take word of mouth and see if you can find good ones near you - and then treat them well.

Just my two cents. Other people's mileage may vary...

edited to add: I agree you've been treated shabbily here! Just trying to point out it's not all small stores, etc...

If you paid for the pen with a credit card, contact your credit-card company. You should be able to dispute the charge, given that the store failed to provide the item you paid for. Then, with the money credited back to your credit card, you can purchase the pen elsewhere. Hope this is helpful.

I wish I had payed per credit card, but I payed cash. I hope this doesn`t take too long anymore. If the pen arrives and there is something wrong with it I`ll send it directly to Pelikan, not over this shop again. But I hope it will be fine for I`ve been tortured enough.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
