Hey Bonny and :W2FPN:

FPN is a great place to learn more about calligraphy and the tools therefore.

Enjoy

Welcome !

I have a fountain pen named "Alex", and , after some discussion, we decided that

naming of plants is a little weird.

I hope that you feel right at home, here in the land of weird. :lticaptd:

Have you tried the different nibs that can be fitted onto the LAMY Safari.

Have not, actually. I'm interested in getting the Italic nib for my Safari but I'm broke and jobless haha

Ah, yes. How well I understand!

You might try this - if you're out with the parental units and everyone stops for coffee, you could ask "can I just have tapwater, and you can give me the price of the coffee towards my next pen nib?"

You know your parents better than I do, and it is possible you're never out together, schedules being what they are these days, but unless they actively disapprove of calligraphy (I can't think why they would, but I haven't thought of everything in this world yet) you stand a chance...

And welcome!

My parents are just as cheap as I am, if not more, sadly.

They both grew up poor and living in America as an immigrant who doesn't know English isn't helping our financial situation either :(

But they're both very good parents so I'm grateful

I aim to get a paying job next summer though!

Welcome Bonny!!!!

I once turned in an assignment in highschool written in a gothic type script. My teacher was flabbergasted asking how long it took me to do it. I told her it didn't take much longer than writing as I normally do. She told me she still couldn't read it.... LOL

Keep it up!!! Your writing is fantastic!

That sounds crazy... I do plan to hand in an assignment in calligraphy but I'm afraid my hand won't be able to handle that haha

Thank you!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
