Dating Montblanc Meisterstuck 146

I have just purchased this Montblanc Meisterstuck 146. It will be a great daily writer, as my 149 is too large for everyday use, and 145, too small. Can anyone date this pen? It looks to be model made before 1990, but the seller states that it is from Germany (instead of W. Germany). Furthermore, is this a good deal for a 146?

Thank you in advance for your inputs.

I think you did fine in terms of price. It looks like an early 80s 146 to me. I get this from the Germany label as well as the split ebonite feed. You also have a very nice OB nib. I have one of these pens and they are great writers. Keep in mind that these are a bit smaller than the modern 146s.

Looks late 70's to me, a very beautiful pen.

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Thank you all for the help. I'm in the same city with the seller and will pick this pen up later during the day. I'm so excited!

Glad to hear it! By the way, I've been browsing Youtube videos about this pen and came up with this video:

. Is it yours by any chance? I've seen the name Fabienne on the writing samples... If yes, great review! I just love that OB nib!

Congrats on the pen! I think you did really well - my 146 is probably a little younger than yours (plastic feed, different ink window) but has the same monotone nib and is wonderfully smooth to write with...you'll really enjoy using it.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
