I presume that some of you have purchased from the Omas Society. I wondered if the method of using credit card but having to send a copy of both sides, is considered to be secure or safe.

Please let me know your thoughts and/or experiences.

This is very unsafe! When handing out both sides, containing the number, exp. date and the ccv code, anyone can buy about anything at about any shop online!

There is a good chance nothing will happen, as I think you can trust Omas on their side, but what if someone hacks into your email account, or theirs. And you can't know if they store it somewhere, which could also be compromised.

when you see a https link, you should not be worried because normally it should be protected with a 128/256 bits protection

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

There isn't a payment option on the site, just the requirement to fax or e-mail a filled-in form with Passport/ID number and copy of front & back of the ID document (I presume that means passport) and on the for, the usual credit card details but what is the CVV/CVV2 Code?

Normally, when you make a payment through an automated system, this code is used to verify that you are the owner and is then discarded by the system. This way when someone hacks for example a database with creditcard data, they can't verify they're the card holder without that code.

Of course there are places you can pay without the security code, but that's another story...

Of course. I'm familiar with the code on the back - just never had it referred to as the CVV etc before! I've sent them an e-mail to ask about payment methods so will wait and see. Pity they don't appear to use PayPal!

What's Omas Society?

The Omas Society is just a simple separate 'club' for want of a better word that Omas pen owners can log into online. I have since discovered that payment by bank transfer would seem to be the best option and have had confirmation of the relevant details from Omas directly.

I think that OMAS for payment options remained "vintage"... Like its fountain pen!

... I hope that "only" modernize payments and continue to build vintage pens!

Are the OMAS society pens still available? I emailed them an inquiry and got no response a few months ago.

Well, I've not been led to believe otherwise and I place my order today. A bank-transfer payment seemed the best option and I will keep you all informed. I've certainly been given a lot of help and advice by e-mail from one of the Sales Area Managers at Omas.

I've just received an e-mail from Omas to say that payment has been received - a relief: I must have filled in the correct information on-line! - and the pen will be shipped today. We'll see.

Pen arrived by courier this morning. A wonderful LE Milord in blue cotton resin with platinum plated motif trim on the cap and barrel. Etc! I'll post pictures when I can. Bank transfer is the way, people!

Great to hear. I'm glad Omas has provided another way. I can't understand why such companies can't just update their website and have someone add a normal secure payment option. Could even just be Paypal as you already said...
