Caran D'ache Storm

I had some of this really thick, manila-ish ribbed paper with music programs on one side that I needed to get rid of, and I thought it would be fun to scribble some jibberjabber on it. I have this Waterman 12 with a nib that clicks when you release from shaded downstrokes, and I wanted to know how the pen held up against this thick, but ribbed paper.

I'm pleased to say that the nib didn't catch unpleasantly or anything. The Storm came out a little subdued, but it shaded nicely.

I apologize for the uncontrolled slants and slopes. This is what happens when I write on paper without lines. Damn my artistic temperament!!!

Nice review. Nice ink. I really like especially the name as IMO it really looks like a storm. Not too black, not too much aubergine (which I also love the heck out of). Sorry about our loss. I'll never forget his own Sputnik-like launch back in 58.

Nice handwriting - you ended up with some pretty shading.

Storm is not my favorite - a bit too much purple in it for my tastes.

I remember Van Cliburn from 1958 my self. He was on I believe the Ed Sullivan show and others, I was ten, and just knew he played real well and wasn't old.

In the time of the Cold War, he was America's answer to all those pesky Russian piano players. Our Sputnik  .

I imagine to true musicians there is no nationality.

I was able to get Storm and three other C d'A inks right after they stopped.

I was so shocked, the price was only €11 which is cheaper than Edelstein and MB.

I was drawing my 'price' info from folks in the States, where it was more expensive than here.

Wow ! Beeeautiful handwriting Presto. BTW, there are slants and slopes in life, and you don't have control over it. So its better to write within lines and rules. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
