StationaryArt only has the F tip in silver.

Black is out of stock. :(

JetPens does not list the MR, only the Metropolitan in M tip.

It seems a nice pen however I don't like the patterned band in the middle, that,s what puts me off it.

Does the fine nib on the MR from StationeryArt have "Super Quality" etc. stamped into it (like the fine nib on the Prera does) or does it have the more shallow decorative engraving like the medium nib on the Metropolitan (or the fine nib on a Cocoon)?

There is decorative engraving (rectangles, not dots like in the Cocoon) and the text says "PILOT <F> Japan"… however, I don't find the nib any inferior to the "Super Quality" Prera.

Edit: Ac12, you can try contacting them. Although they had sale and seem to want to get rid of all the FPs, the black <F> MRs sold really quickly, so they might be interested in restocking them.

Edit #2: I made a comparison table for variations of this pen, I hope it enlightens some people. You're free to edit it if you find any mistakes.

Edit #3: To be precise, I have 2 MRs and 2 Preras in use, one Prera nib is better and one worse than the MR nibs. I think it depends just on the variation…

I agree that there is variety between the nibs. I too have two Pilot pens (with two on order), the MR and the Prera. Both seem to have the same nib apart from what has been printed on them, but the nib in the Prera is far superior to the one in the MR.

Thanks Tomáš for the info about the nibs -- and that chart you posted is perfect.

:-)

I have two Preras, originally purchased as one medium and one fine, and one Metropolitan in Medium. I put the Metro's medium nib in the Prera that had a fine nib in it originally and I've been using them both for a couple of weeks.

Comparing the two different medium nibs in my Preras I've found that the Metro nib is rather springier -- i.e. the original Prera nib is more of a nail than the Metro nib. I had been thinking that if this was in fact generally true, then perhaps a contributing factor may be the additional work-hardening acquired when the text was stamped into the Prera nib (versus text being engraved onto the Metro nib).

Crossing fingers and toes, I think I may have snagged the last <F> in silver from Stationery Arts late last night. It's my first purchase from them.

Another Metropolitan fan here. I was just watching a video from Gouletpens and he switched the nib from a Plumix (italic) onto the Metro-same size/fit. Interesting...

The nibs from the Plumix, 78G, Metropolitan and Prera are all interchangeable. I hane my Plumix stub on my Metro right now.

Oh, and I have a twist converter in there so I can see how much ink I have

I appreciate the smoothness of my Pilot Something nib, but I do find it a bit... Dull. For the price, very good, but I'll generally use my Lamy Safari EF in preference.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
