You have nice handwriting.

Storm looks a bit on the purple side of gray, yes?

I have a couple of Caran D'ache pens - enjoy them very much. It's ok that you didn't know it's a Swiss company. At one of my first pen shows, I overheard two people discussion Caran D'ache - I interrupted (obviously to show off my knowledge) and said, "Caran D'ache?! I love her pens!"

Regardless of where the pen's made, ink, shading, paper, spelling (the bane of my existence) or anything else this is worth reading just for the handwriting. Very Nice!

You have beautiful handwriting, and I think this thread should go back to the ink reviews section. This is a lovely colour, and the shading is definitely there! As for your German pen, what is it called? It does lay down a beautiful line!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for the compliments! I'm glad you like my 2am scrawl. The pen has no identifying marks on it anywhere except the nib says "made in Germany" on it.

If anyone has seen such a pen before, I'd love to hear info on it.

It looks to be chrome plated steel with a leather covered barrel with a lengthwise red stitch on it. There's an interesting diameter change for the barrel. post-101589-0-21325100-1371588355_thumb.jpg

I think the ink is Swiss, the pen is German, and the paper is French.

But regardless, thanks for the review.

Caran d'Ache is in any case a Swiss company. They make inks and pens plus lots of other accessories just like Montblanc does. Caran d'Ache used to offer 9 FP inks. Most of these have now been discontinued and are all being replaced with 12 new inks in completely new bottles and boxes..

The pen can be from anywhere. The Made in Germany normally means the 'iridium' tipping was made in Germany; Lots of Chinese pens do that so folks think the nib was made in Germany, even some some German, I believe. It is an international loophole.

Bock does stamp any company who orders from them if wished with that company's name.. JoWo makes German nibs too. Schmidt buys nibs and puts them on feeds.

I don't have a JoWo nib so don't know how it's stamped.

All that really matters is that the nib writes well.

Looking at ink reviews is bad...makes me want to ink with the ink reviewed. And I still got 7 pens inked.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
