Greetings all! My name is Tracie Lee and I live in Buckhead, Georgia and I am a pen enthusiast and writer. I love everything to do with pens, paper, writing, ink, etc. I have a bunch of pens, but now I feel like I need to educate myself on the proper maintenance of my pens, the best papers to use for the different types, what inks are preferable, which nibs are better (fine, medium, broad), etc. I look forward to conversing with you on these and other topics.

Hi Tracie and :W2FPN:

FPN is just the right place to learn all about those subjects you mention.

Hope you'll enjoy yourself.

Welcome !

This is the right place. Fellow members have done so much of the evaluation of inks and papers, etc. for us. We just have to decide what we want our ink to look like and what we want the ink to do. As for nibs -- how do you want your writing to look ?

I have had much fun here. Wishing you the same. (What color are your fingers today ?) :lticaptd:

Write with joy.

Welcome to the FPN! We have oodles of information and even more lively discussions regarding paper. Or we just show off our accumulations and our works. Or we just chitchat.

There isn't any magic combination of good anything, though. Each pen is a unique experience, and a simple google search on here regarding moleskine can show you that. There are people who got lucky with moleskines and hit the right combination of nibs and inks, and then there are those who bought stacks and are cursing the brand using all the offensives from The Devil's Dictionary (which, one of our member is illustrating and copying out... for fun. It's a magnificent work). We can show you the options, but it's really trial and error.

We're a bunch of enablers. Welcome to the world where you step in and you just don't go back :P

Welcome Tracie! For some reason, I completely missed this post, lol. At least I got to welcome you over at the Virtual Pen Posse though, Just FYI, we are currently working on our next meeting time and place for the Atlanta Pen & Ink Fans group (APIF) ^_^. Several people here (like Flake above) are part of the group, so it would be great if you can make it too! Watch the "Clubs, Meetings & Events" forum here on FPN (or the VPP group page) for the details and announcements!

BTW, hope we see you in the Virtual Pen Posse chat room (you can click the link in my signature below to get to the log in page- no password required!).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
