Worther Compact Metal

I just received the Worther Compact Metal.

Honestly, I loved its design, but I was expecting a cheap pen. For my surprise, inside the box was piece of art. The spartan, elegant design comes with a perfect, German made finishing. I quickly installed a Waterman converter (it comes without - the only minus of this pen) and filled it with Diamine Teal. The nib is amazing, it works like a... German piece of machinery. Perfect. Normally, I prefer heavy pens. This one is light (aluminum), but it's very well balanced. Than, the texture (brushed aluminum) of the pen gives a tactile pleasure. What can I say? One of the most beautiful pens (I know, it's just a matter of personal taste) with a minimalistic design, a perfect finishing and a nib that works excellent. For a small price. Thank you, Worther!

I've looked at those and a lack of broad nib holds me back. Great looking pen though. Where does the step hit your hand? What's the clip like?

Hello chiaroscuro,

Closed, it's 13 cm long (not a good pen for superstitious people, than). Without cap is 12 cm. The pen cannot be used with a posted cap. Simply because the opening of the cap has the same size as the barrel. That could be a minus for those loving to post the cap. Doesn't affect me, though.

Hello UncleRed,

The clip as you can see in one of the images, doesn't touch the barrel. The space between them is less than 1mm. Being thick aluminum, it doesn't bend, but it has a pivot inside the cap (with a resort) so you can open it. It's like the hood of a car. To see better where the step touches my hand, I will post a picture with the pen, being in my hand. It's fairly long, without the need of posting the cap.

Wörther is an amazing brand, the only line of models that I don't like is the spiral ones, every other model of fountain pen, ballpoint and, specially, mechanical pencils are gorgeous!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
