Just to clarify, I really meant if there are any shipping deals to be found, such as jetpen's "free over 25" deal.

You like cheap? How about this:

If you have a Staples near you, you can choose the option "deliver to store", so the shipping is free. Final price $15. In the site that Mactechbri suggested, the shipping cost is $6.50, so the pen ends up being $20.

I like to post.

My Metros have flying caps. As does yhe MB 149.

However I don't have to worry about the Metro's cap breaking, just about the indignity of lying on the horrible floor at work looking under furniture.

I take the Nemos to work!

Cheers,

This post is a few years old -- hope the OP has made a decision by now! :lticaptd: Good discussion about two great entry pens, though. Good reading for anyone looking for a first/second pen or an inexpensive add to their collection.

Put me in the buy-both camp. Unlike the Metropolitan, the Singularity can be turned into an eyedropper. I like eyedroppers, and that's a selling point for me. Plus, the added heft in eyedropper mode helps with the balance. On the other hand, the Metropolitan is a solid, well-built pen. I dropped one of my Metropolitans—capped—on the kitchen floor and nothing happened but ink shot into the cap. Not a scratch. I doubt any Singularity would survive a fall like that.

If the Metropolitan is a fair deal at $20, the Singularity at $20 is overpriced. But in fact, I firmly believe the opposite: the Singularity is fairly priced at $20 and the Metropolitan is underpriced.

I've had two Singularitys (-ties?) and four Metropolitans.

I treat all my pens as gingerly as possible. But the demonstrator Singularity's cap developed micro cracks early on, and within 1½ years the cap cracked irreparably during normal use, an oft-repeated refrain around here. The red one has held up quite well, but micro cracks have developed around the base of the cap.

You never know when that Singularity cap is going to begin developing cracks and when, after that, the cap will break in your hands. Until that happens, the pen is a very good writer.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
