New moderators....

Dearest Members & Visitors to the little Fountain Pen Nut house on the digital prairie,

As you all know, since a bit over a week we have a few new forums, a regional forum for Chinese and ROC pens, a Miscellenous (Other) brands forum, and we renamed the Writing Instruments forum to "First Stop - Frequently Discussed Topics".

As you may also know, we normally require at least two moderators to eb avialabel for any new forum, and in this case there is no exception. The moderators of the old WI forum have indicated they gladly help out with the new forums, so they have been added to the list of moderators for those forums :).

However, we found a few new victims, uhhh, volunteers, to help with moderating these forums as well.

dcpritch will help out with First Stop and Miscellaneous Brands, and Harlequin will assist with Miscellaneous Brands, Chinese & ROC pens, and with the Clubs, Meetings and Events forums.

So please, three cheers and a warm welcome for dcpritch and Harlequin!

Warm regards,

The FPN Admin Team

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. Having now become a moderator I am even more impressed than before with the group that greeted me - they are without exception warm, genuine, incredibly bright, and dedicated to FPN. I am honored to contribute to a place from which I have gained so many friends and learned so much.

Thank you both for stepping up to the challenge. Hats off to you both. From what I can tell, being an internet moderator is kind of like this...

A belated welcome (sorry). The spam-o-rama thing had me so distracted, I failed to even notice this thread until yesterday. A huge welcome and thanks to you for your contributions.

Congratulations David! Though I'd better congratulate the Forum and myself for having such a first rate moderator among us :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
