Just wanted to say hello! I have recently found an Eversharp pencil in my grandfathers things from around 1945. The pencil caught my eye and lead me to try and find out more about it, since my grandfather died about 20 years ago, I have been on my own in learning about him. I googled and found alot of information about Eversharp and discovered the Skyline pens and pencils and now I think I am hooked. I just bought my first Skyline pen to go with the pencil from my grandfathers things. So Hello, I'm Sean. New Skyline Addict.

Welcome, Sean.

There is a lot to learn about these great pens and pencils. I think you will find that this forum will have a lot to offer from both a historical and a group knowledge base standpoint. Please take some time to review the many pervious posts about Skylines on this forum. You may be amazed at the amount of material already posted here. We have a nice group of posters, so feel free to ask for or offer your questions and comments. You will find that you will receive courteous responses here. (or else!)

Glad to have you aboard the Wahl-Eversharp forum

Hello Sean - and welcome. Syd pretty much said it all - folks will help you all they can. I guess you've figured out that's a pretty classy pencil and the pen that goes with it is pricier than your average Skyline - your Grandfather had good taste! I'm heading down to the Pen Cave right now to work on one of my Skylines that's developed a finicky streak. Perhaps it just needs a good flossing, if not, some surgery is called for.

Have fun.

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

Thanks for the welcomes. I have been enjoying all the posts in the other topics. I have bid on 2 gray modern stripe pens but they go a bit above my limit for entertainment spending right now. Again, Thank for the welcome.

I chased a blue or green Modern Striped Skyline for years. They always went over my budget. I gave up for a while, then was searching around again and found one that closed in my price range ($45). It needed a replacement derby on the cap, but I had a few spare parts. Now it just needs a good nib. . .

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

I've also had my eye on a few grey Modern Stripes but they always whizz past me - in the "phew" bracket. I've never even seen a green one for sale. Must pay more attention...and get more money.

Funny old world, isn't it? The Modern Stripes were low(er) end and these are ones we all crave.

There's a blue one, green and a grey set on ebay right now. I bet they go for $70+ each. I bought a 5th Ave. CA to convert for everyday use but I am keeping my eye on the modern stripes.

Not that I would normally point someone in the direction of an ebay treat I fancy myself, but there is a clutch of four Skylines on at the moment.

Can't work out really if they're working - they look great but copy doesn't actually say they write - and I think if repairs/restoration is required they're not for me at the moment - but perhaps for one of you guys with more experience. . .

They're on at $52 at the moment and I'm not much of an ebay gambler, so thought I'd mention it to folks who may be interested.

Would do you a link but don't know how sorry!

My heart still set on snagging a Skyline though, just maybe not those! ;)

Mmmnn; problem is, not a lot of money at the moment... I've been on a few minor business trips in the last week or so and spent a bit on hotels and the like. What will now happen is that when I claim these expenses back, I'll cheerfully assume that this is nice new income, to be used for pens instead of paying off my credit card - and there I go again...

That set of four Skylines went for $200! Glad I didn't involved in that one!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
