Can someone else ask this seller where the Retail Price can be checked out.

What do you know, the seller has used old Monty's prices for RP.

I sent the seller a massage asking where the info came from. We shall see . . .maybe.

Both different from their standard. That first one must have set a new high water mark for greed. Flash flood.

Well, I have given four links, three in ebay and one on Amazon, when I posted my pen I looked at retail prices on ebay and found the sites I've given you links to, I had decided I'd sell mine for £85.00 and therefore put £95.00 on it for bargaining amount. I shall remove retailing price from my listing since you seemed peeved at it.

Where does your information about the 136.00 retail price come from? I have been unable to verify that. Thanks.

Well the first is the seller's reply to my query. Did I seem peeved?

Same result! Perhaps it is a country-filter

Given the seller surprising that he isn't asking $90.

Yep. And is that matte black, or just dirty?

Also, how does he know it's a smooth writer if it's uninked??

The seller says it was a decal he removed which has left a mark. I still cannot see the normal stamped pattern. He also said the nib was dipped to test it and that does not constitute being INKED. He has though lowered the price.

Not only no pattern on the "shield" part (I don't know what to call it), there is no gutter line on the rest of the band that goes around the pen.

Did Waterman (or someone else) make custom bands for these pens with logos for company promotions or corporate awards or some such? Or maybe someone just ruined the original band by accident and made their own replacement (if so it looks like a very nice fit).

The band does look custom, as if corporate. There is a bit of wear and tear on the cap, but the price has been lowered to about the going rate for today. These were and are wonderful pens, and demand drives price.

Merry Christmas.

  • 2 weeks later...

A nice clean, unused, example.

Rather a pity the seller ripped me off for the postage.

It never ceases to amaze me how many sellers still don't seem to know that there is so much more to lose now by adding P&P on separately, and not including all of fees and other charges within the start price or Buy it Now price.

They must be quite happy to get a 1 star rating for P&P then find they no longer get their free 20 listings per month.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
