Pelikan M201? What Is It?

Hey all,

I just won an eBay auction for a "Pelikan M201." Doing some research online however, I can't find much information on the Pelikan "M201" at all. I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable ones could fill me in on the M201 and what it is. I have starting to wonder if the seller mis-typed "M200" and entered "M201" instead.

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure the seller mistyped it as 201 because it looks like a regular M200.

Okay, I guess I'll be expecting a M200 then. One more question, can anyone identify what type of nib that's on the pen? It seems to me like it's a silver nib with a gold circle in the middle? I'm pretty sure standard M200 nibs were completely gold plated...

Received the pen today and the box does say "Pelikan M201" so it isn't an "M200." Besides that though, it looks exactly like an M200 and I was very happy to find that the nib is actually a 14 karat nib from a Pelikan M400! Very pleased considering the price I paid.

I am glad you got a got a good deal. I have never found why mine was called a M201 not just M200 but it said it on the box just like yours :) Enjoy the pen!

Just came across this thread via Google search. Probably long after the OP has discovered this already, but I believe an M201 is a limited edition version of the 200. I've seen a number of M201s advertised, always as limited editions, and often limited to the particular seller. So I'm guessing Pelikan makes deals with major fountain pen vendors to supply them with a limited edition M201 with a different color scheme than a regular 200.

That is essentially correct and most recently seen in FPH's Bayou and Fahrney's Neptune Blue and Mars Red.

Can OP post a picture once he receives it?

This post originated in April 2013. Pen has probably been long ago received. Also, the OP hasn't been active since 1/2015. The perils of necro threads.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
