Also, if you have any ideas to help me with some names (click this link), throw them my way. :)

This morning I woke up with ancient Greek names floating around my head. Since I'm still very much interested in the scientific theme, I've gone for Greek mathematicians.

Keep an eye out for what's coming next because I've got a new metal lathe on the way. With this my work will become more consistent and precise. I'll be able to make better threads and hopefully cleaner finishes. I'm excited about the possibilities. :) AND - I'll be getting an order of oversize, #8 gold nibs in the next month or so as well. THAT will be fun to see.

I'm SO excited. And I have all of you to thank for everything!

That's one sweet machine. Congratulations.

That looks like quite a lathe. I have a Sherline that is very easy to move. I also have a Vicmarc wood lathe that is a beast. I hope you enjoy your new machine.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Congratulations! :clap1:

That's quite a lathe. Are you sure you're allowed to operate it without a license? :D

Hang on a sec, I'm trying to find an emoticon for equipment envy!

Wow, awesome! I'm not jealous......much :ltcapd:

So how did you choose this lathe? I've been searching around a bit, but my head is swimming with options I don't fully understand

It was recommended to me by a friend. This is the smallest lathe (small??) that has quick change gears and will be able to do everything I want w/o having to change stuff on the side every time I want to change functions. I have NO interest in taking the side of my lathe apart every time I want to go from turning to threading, or whatever, so this was an easy decision. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
