Deccan Pens Questions

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of ordering a Deccan Advocate or Author. I have a couple of questions and would appreciate any replies:

The quality of the clip. I was a bit dubious about the clips made by Ranga, and opted to order clipless versions of their pens. I'm wondering about the clips that come with Deccan pens. Are they made well, do they stand up to the rigors of typical use?

Eyedropper vs. converter. As far as I know, these pens are available only in eyedropper mode. Is this true?

Thanks...

The clips on the Advocate and Author, both are very good and are much better than those on the ones you name, but they are not the super quality clips like the ones found on a Pelikan M800/1000 or a Lamy 2000 or a Pilot Custom.

AFAIK, Advocate is available only as ED filled. Author is available both as ED as well as a permanent fixed squeeze filler.

HTH.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

I just had a conversation with one of their salespeople and he told me that they can sell me a clipless version. It turns out that he'll simply remove the clip. I asked about marks left from there the clip would have been attached to the pen, and he claimed that there would not be any marks left. I'm puzzled. How is this possible?

Regarding the filling mechanism. I'm not a fan of eyedroppers, so... in your experience, is the squeeze filler reliable and durable?

Finally. The Author is 8-9 times more expensive than the Advocate. In your opinion, are the differences in the two pens so substantial as to warrant such a big difference in prices?

Thanks...

Hello Mint,

Just saw the Advocate and Author on Google. Looks very interesting. Since I am from India, i have 2 questions here:

1. Where did you place the order on? Could you pass on the address to me too?

2. The nib looks fine on both. Is that the only one available, or do we get medium and large also?

Thanks -- LH

I see dead fountain pens!

I have a DECCAN Bullet SR from Fountain Pen Revolution and it has an excellent sturdy clip -- I am quite pleased with it

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
