Surabaya here. Lol.
Well, all I can say is that I am kinda desperate. Can't really get decent choices, actually. This country is so underdeveloped in the term of fountain pens.

Hey there, I'm from Surabaya, Indonesia. Currently in a US college. I might not be able to meet you in Jakarta, but let me know if you want to buy fountain pens in US online shops, like Goulet Pens, Jet Pens, etc. During vacation I'll be back home, so I can send your stuff then.

You are really a knight in shining armor :) Perhaps I can contact you if I want to order some from Goulet Pens. And I am from Surabaya, too. Nice to know you...

Three ink brands which are famous in our country: Parker Quink, Hero, and Sheaffer Skrip.

To my choice, I like Sheaffer Skrip, because it doesn't really stain the cartridges and the feeds of my fountain pens. I use black, red and green, and sometimes mix them into new colors.

I am in China, but I am going to Jakarta for training in a month. Cheap fountain pens are everywhere here as is cheap ink. PM me if you want me to bring some cheap pens and ink.

What a nice offer :) I think I'll PM you soon. I am quite interested in buying some Jinhaos or Kaigelus. Thank you.

i'm a filipino currently visiting jakarta, and today i found myself in the gramedia book store in one of the malls here. was glad to see that it had a pretty decent selection of many top-tier pens--montblanc, graf von faber-castell, parker, sheaffer, cross, etc. i was impressed that they had quite a few limited edition pens on display for both MB and gvfc. the prices, of course, were considerably higher than you'd find elsewhere, but still, they're out here.

last year, on another visit here, i spotted a few vintage pens in the flea market in jalan surabaya, but nothing special enough for me to pick up. i'll be back there tomorrow and will take another look. who knows? a lot of great vintage pens (parkers and montblancs) are being sold out of indonesia, so they must be here somewhere.

Saw a few junky vintage pens in Jalan Surabaya but nothing special, didn't even bother to ask for prices. Ebay may still be the best source for vintage pens in Indonesia.

Oh well, can't really complain since few people here use fountain pens, let alone collecting them. Besides, there is a thinking that spending quite a money for a (luxurious) fountain pen is kinda absurd.

Your quest of finding some vintage pens on Jalan Surabaya sparks my curiosity; What did you really found there? What brand? How vintage? :)

I hope so. I used to have Parker Quink. It is a well-behaved ink, but, alas, it is hard to find it anywhere in Surabaya.

That Parker Penman Ebony, you bought it in Gramedia? How much?

the nicest pen i found was a gold-plated sheaffer targa ca. 1980, but again i didn't even bother asking to see it, if everything was all right, how much, etc. because it didn't seem to be in the best shape. (at this point of my collecting, after 30 years, i'm actually trimming my collection down and keeping only the best specimens, so a pen has to be either very good or very rare for me to be interested).

i have to keep wondering where the vintage pens in indonesia are, because again quite a few of them turn up on ebay being sold out of indonesia, and as far as i can tell, they're legit. (it makes sense, too, indonesia being a very large country with a bureaucracy that must have used a lot of pens in the past.)

You mean, Indonesians sell vintage pens on Ebay?

Bureaucrats in the past used fountain pens; the high managements used the nicest ones. Well, Hero was the most common low-end pens, followed by Parker. I can still remember that my grandfather had some Heros and Parkers, which I inherited and used quite some time during my school days in the 90s. :)

ah, yeah i get it why you don't really bother to ask.

i do the same with my other hobby too, i don't really bother to ask if it's just a common things :D

no, i bought it in flea market for 30rb :D

well flea market will always be a starter for my hobby, i bought some hero pens for 20.000 each, the latest i bought parker 41 and blue parker quink for 40.000. well not like penmanila, who search for a nice shape pen or a rare one because he was collecting for a long time, i bought almost every pen i found simply because i just started it :D

Ah, yes. There's an impulse to buy anything related to fountain pen, but trust me, you'll develop your own preferences of what an ideal fountain pen might be.

Well, I can recommend you some Jinhaos: 159, X450 and X750. They are Chinese and the quality is something beyond its price. Try to hit Lazada and order some. :)

Hi, long time user of fountain pen here. But only serious last few years into collecting pen. Well more of a finding the right writer for my everyday use. I am a very utilitarian pen user, not much of a fancy pen collector. I use my pen daily. Gathering would be nice. I would settle if we can connect here on regular bases.
