Pentalic Products

I keep various notepads around. Most of them are Rhodia graph lined and each has their own purpose, but since I have recently started using fountain pens, I find that I write more, so I decided that I need a journal. I was at my local Hobby Lobby the other day and took a chance on a Pentalic brand HC sketchbook. It is roughly 4x6 and has 220 pages of 70# paper. I love it. It works great for my purposes. From beginning to end, it lays flat and the pages are stitched in. It does not feel as if they will fall out. I have written in it now with 4 different FP's and a dip pen, each with a different ink. I have noticed no feathering and only minor bleed through by coloring the same spot three or four times. It is possible to write on the front and back of a page with no issues. I am impressed by this 4.99 find and was wondering if anyone else had tried them.

I searched the forum and found interesting threads about Pentalic products such as blank paper blocks, sketchbooks and lined journals. They are generally well-regarded and considered to be good values considering the paper quality, build quality and low price. In my market, they appear at Aaron Bros Art Supplies as well as Hobby Lobby.

Glad you found a product you enjoy using with with your fountain pens. Suggest you buy several more because, in my experience, good things seem to disappear off the shelves and the restock is slightly different--usually worse.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I have a small faux leather softcover journal/sketchbook from Pentalic. It has an elastic closure and a dark blue ribbon marker (book is black). It doesn't lay very flat, but the paper is great. I've enjoyed writing in it with a variety of pens, and I have beaten it to a pulp in my bag, pocket, and desk without any major ill effects. I would totally buy a Pentalic book again.

I'm happy to announce we have begun carrying the Pentalic Traveler series of notebooks ... Three sizes, mostly plain sketch paper, but the 4x6 size is also available in lined or grid. Look for a post in The Mall later today .....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
