I´ve mounted a "normal" rounded grinding stone on it. Don´t know if this is the official name.
It came with the dremel bundled, I think you will have no problems to find such a grinding stone in a hardware store.

I'm too afraid to try this!  I don't think I have a steady enough hand.

You have really nice handwriting!  I'm kind of jealous.

I agree.  Great idea and quite a good job of writing your responses with the new nib.

Hey Guys,

Did the mod a couple weeks ago.  So far, I have to say it's working like a charm.  The tines seem to be slightly more spread out right now, but that's only if you examine with a jeweler's loop.  Here's a video tutorial I posted right after I did it.

P.S. I hope it is ok to link outside of the forums.  Please let me know if it isn't.

Thanks for posting and effort, but at the end of video feed doesn't seemed to keeping up with the flexing nib to me. Can you draw a single full flex line from top to bottom say to a letter size paper maybe even more without railroading or skipping at an acceptable writing  speed?

One boring blue, one boring black 1mm thickness at most....

Then there are Fountain Pens with gorgeous permanent inks..

here's another mod i saw this morning - this is more how i would do it... and I think i may as i happen to have a couple Ahabs floating around the house right now.  :)

http://www.fountainp...x-modification/

This is how you see some of the nib meisters modify their 14k gold nibs to add flex.  It's what I did to a 14k nib a short while back.

http://newtonpens.wo....com/long-shot/

Works quite well.

As it turns out, I think I was a bit too excited during that vid, so I probably flexed a bit to much and a bit too unevenly on the tines.  After living with the mod for several weeks, I can lay down quite a bit of ink without getting any railroading.  I also modded the feed to give more flow, so keep that in mind.  In general, I find the mod to make the nib write extremely wet with less shading, which can be good or bad depending on your opinion.  It definitely depends on the type of ink you put in, as drier inks will not perform nearly as well.  Pics below just for you! :P

One thing I have to say I have noticed after modding two pens is that the nib tines open up just a little bit after the mod.  This was not a problem on my first Konrad, I think because I also modded the feed to give more flow.  However, my second Konrad currently stops writing after some time, and I can visibly see the ink is not getting all the way to the tip of the nib.  I can press the wings of the nib together to get the ink to flow to the end of the nib, so this leads me to believe I need to get the nib tines closer together to prevent these flow problems.  I'll post more after I've tinkered a bit...

I love threads like this. They make me excited to experiment with moding nibs. That and they keep me constantly think "that image/handwriting/pen can't be reall!!!". Love it. Keep on.

Man, now I can't wait to get home from work to try this on mine.  I hope it turns out as well as yours.  I seem to have gotten lucky with my Konrad, it flows and flexes pretty well after just adjusting the nib and feed depth but I can't for the life of me get the Ahab working right.  Dremel tool here I come!

Maybe a silly question, but can a 14kt nib be modified with a Dremel the same way?

Breathe.  Take one step at a time.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  You're not getting older, you are only moving through time.  Be calm and positive.
