Just jumping in here since it seems like a good place for it...

Today someone just posted a listing for a Waterman Edson fountain pen (blue) on Craigslist in Denver. He is asking $325 which sounds like a great deal.

£220...at that price you should snap it up. From the description, 2009, Fine nib, with original converter it sounds great with all the normal candy.

 ...not really, although I did enquire but import duties/VAT/handling charges would have pushed up the price.

I don't doubt it, it should not have lasted more than 5 minutes after being posted on this group.

I bought it, so I can confirm it is sold. Sigh, could not resist at that price. My grail pen is on it's way.

If it is in as good shape as the seller indicated, straight to the SAS/NR nib exchange it is going for a broad.

"Well, at least being into pens isn't a gross habit. Like smoking or whatever."

"Ahh, thanks?"

Great - I'm glad an FP aficionado got it! I hope it works out well; let us know when you get it.

Update: there were shipping issues with the pen and it has not arrived. I've discussed with the seller and will get a refund instead. Nothing shady, but at this point perhaps it just was not the right time. I have not yet received said refund.

Hmmm indeed... However I did speak with the seller on the phone as well, he is also a fountain pen enthusiast, so I believe nothing shady is occurring.

P.S. Thanks Spatr!

Glad to hear it. Took me two tries to get my Edson. 1st time bought a 'mint', 'as new' sapphire blue from an auction site. Nothing could have been further from the truth and the seller also failed to mention that it had been engraved! Ended up returning it and buying a new one. Stunning pen. Will be worth the wait when you get one!

The Waterman Edson is probably the most overlooked and under rated writing instruments made. I treasure my varied colored sets, and wish I had purchased the Black edition. You must be cautious about scratching the pen. The caps are fine, the nibs are so smooth, I purchased all broad nibs and they lay down a lot of ink. Maybe a medium. I will probably offer an Edson and matching ballpoint for sale. It's a pen you almost have to write with to really appreciate it. One of Waterman's best performances.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
