Just received the pen today. What a beauty, it certainly feels very high quality. I've put a cartridge of serenity blue in it. It has the gold stud on the bottom of the barrel which I have read about in another post and its a great change from the Montblancs.

Has the edson actually been discontinued? Most websites are saying it has but it's still on the Waterman website

That message is 2 yrs old, and both the black and the blue model are still available in the shops.

I am a massive Edson fan and have bought and sold quite a few over the years. As it happens I have one boxed up and waiting to be shipped out to its new FPN owner which I sold through the classifieds on here. Its a totally as brand new Diamond Black Edson. It did have an oblique fine nib fitted but at the request of the new owner I have got Waterman to change this for a stub which they have done free of charge. I sold this for £430.

I maybe getting rid of a blue and gold one soon and if so will probably use the FPN classifieds as my first route to sell it. This one started of life as a rollerball so you are limited to small cartridges but the plus side is it comes with a rollerball end unit giving the user a bit of flexibility.

I understood the caps were different between FP and RB for all Waterman models.

I have done the rollerball to FP conversion three times without any issues. The barrels are different as the rollerball ones will not take a convertor or large cartridge.

My new edson has a tiny tiny white speck on the blue barrel which is driving me nuts, I've always been like that with little things. I haven't had the opportunity to get a loupe on it but it won't come off, it's not scratched just a tiny white thing.

I wonder what's the use of that conversion if you get a crippled pen as a result...

Flexibility is the name of the game and cost. If Waterman didn't put the most laughable price tag on these then things might be different

One will fit t'other, but t'other may not fit t'other proper like

As for the spot, if you have the purchase receipt you could return it to NRW for replacement. But you may not get one back with the gold button end.

Ehhh... well I do dislike rollerballs. But I have the most easy solution for that problem. :eureka:

I don't buy them, so I don't need an conversion....

To have a rollerball I dislike turned into a FP that is crippled in that it will be as functional as a Kaweko Sport for the price of about 40 Kaweco Sports would be maddening torture to me. (I DO like my Kaweco Sport alu, but for it's proper price)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
