Which nibs did y'all request?

I've asked for a fine nib. I always tend to buy EF nibs so will be good to see the difference.

Even though it seems that I am a late comer, if you need my services, please feel free.

I am in Mexico, I like big pens, MB 149 (five of them), Pelikan M-800 and M-1005.

I like flexible nibs, stubs and italic, I have had over 30 pens ground to these standard.

Please let me know.

Cheers,

I can't wait to read all the reviews and see photos of the pens in action.

This type of project is fun, even for those of us who were unlucky to not be chosen as testers.

I will like to be tester if you still have room. I prefer a fine nib, color makes no difference.

Hi, first of all - sorry You have to wait so long - last weeks were crazy for me.

My English is not to good, so maybe best thing I can do is show You pictures and give some informations. One comment: in writing sample I made a mistake: nib is not Airmail, but Wality Special. This makes a difference.

Basic information:

Body: Acrylic

Nib Material: metal (gold plated?)

Nib Size: Fine

Cap Type: Screw On/Off

Post-able: Yes

Filling Mechanism: eyedropper

Ink Capacity: huge

Length Capped: 145mm

Length Posted: 170mm

Length Uncapped: 120mm

Nib Length: 20mm

Cap Diameter: 14mm

Section Diameter: 9-11mm

Barrel Diameter: 11-14mm

First impression: BIG and great color. Second: fatso - we will fit together.:P After filling with ink it took a minute to start, but later, after one day pen starts from first contact with paper. This is quite big pen, for me this is great. I didn't use this pen to write longer, but after few minutes I can say this is nice and quite comfortable. Nib is F, and this is European F, not to thin, but not M in my opinion. Writes well, no scratches, no skipping. I can say - this is everyday pen for taking notes when You want to be sure You will not run out of ink. Color is the matter of taste - for me is very nice, slightly pearly.

Ok, ask me if You want to know something, I'll try to do may bes.

Now, let the images speak.

Been away for a while, but here's my review.

Photos will follow later when I get home.

Photos Added.

It probably comes as no surprise I was eagerly waiting for the chance to try a new pen, so when it arrived, nicely packed with cat toys (I mean Styrofoam pieces), the pen, an eyedropper and an extra nib I just felt like a kid on Christmas morning. The cat too (and she kept the Styrofoam)!

The first impression I had was “this is really eye catching”. My mother just went and said something like “that looks like expensive and it is an eyedropper… so… Really?!” in her best disapproving tone. But when she picked it up she loved the ocean like swirls.

My girlfriend loved it too, I think it’s the unusual light color. The reaction can be accurately described as the “OOOOooooh shiney” effect and it is a clinical condition she has regarding stationery in general .

Being a tester, I kept it on a visible spot on my office desk and people noticed it and either thought it was too much or loved it. There was no middle ground and no one was indifferent to it, so bear that in mind when going with the more garish versions of this.

Having put it through its paces for over a week now, I can give you my opinion on how it feels and behaves (and I have been putting it through the ringer - currently in my rotation I only have the P51 Aero or the MB Brahms and I made a point of relying on this as a workhorse, keeping the others as a backup in case anything went wrong).

-Appearance & Design (1-10) – 9 – Classic shape but on Technicolor.

By now you know from my previous reviews I am a sucker for flat tops and this one is a nice looking flat top of rather conservative and classical design. If not for the flamboyant coloring of the pen, it would be a very classical and discreet pen.

http://imageshack.us/a/img37/7669/dsc7294.JPG

http://imageshack.us/a/img221/1462/dsc7296.jpg

The thing is… the color is vivid and amazing. The photos do not do it justice and while I usually like more muted pens, I have to say this one positively sparkles and grows on you, with all the light blue and black swirls, slightly translucent and reflective at the same time. You can hold it to the light and see the ink inside… which is kind of fun actually. To sum it up, it is a high visibility pen. You either love it or hate it on that account. Personally and despite myself I have grown to love it, although I find this color a bit too distracting for more formal meetings.

http://imageshack.us/a/img42/7365/dsc7293p.jpg

It has a good sized thread on both the cap and the grip, so it does feel safe, despite being an eyedropper and the grip is quite good. The place where the cap meets the barrel has a noticeable straight “step” but I don’t find that particularly uncomfortable. I would prefer the grip to be slightly longer. My better half, with slightly smaller hands, finds it awkward sometimes, but again, not always, and just tends to grab the pen more towards the nib.

Overall it’s a nice combination of a tested and proven design and a very showy color scheme.

-Construction & Quality (1-10) – 7 – well-built and solid feeling pen

I’m going to be straight with you. I have very mixed feelings about eyedroppers: love the ink capacity, hate the fuss and the extra care with the writing. Construction of an eyedropper has to take these points in consideration: the possible burping, the need to keep any disasters inside the cap and ease of cleaning.

If I tell you that, having forgotten the pen on my desk where it was exposed to sunlight for 1h 30m, I had to see how easy it was to get the mess out of the pen (and desk and some notes ) it should come as no surprise. It was quite easy to just wash it and dry it with a napkin, so easy access as far as that is concerned.

I kept it in my shirt pocket when not wearing a suit, which speaks volumes to how confident I was about it. To be honest, other than that incident above I only had one instance where it dropped some ink and I’m assuming that was because I just picked it up, on an awfully cold day and went about writing with it without a second thought.

There is one thing which worried me: the feed sticks out at the end of the grip, instead of being inside it. Apparently the new version being a C/C will not have this problem, but while I thought it would be harder to flush than any of my other pens it ended up not being so.

http://imageshack.us/a/img585/7025/dsc7297.jpg

-Weight & Dimensions (1-10) – 7

It is rather light for its size. Capped it is bigger than the P51, uncapped is a tad smaller and it is a nice fit. I’d prefer if the grip was a tad longer, maybe 3mm more would be great, but overall it is very light as fits nicely in my hand.

http://imageshack.us/a/img843/2584/dsc7298d.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img46/6270/dsc7299n.jpg

-Nib & Performance (1-10) – 7 – Very firm Fine nib

This nib is a firm Fine. It has no spring to it whatsoever but it is still smooth.

http://imageshack.us/a/img42/1519/dsc7295t.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img132/8551/dsc7292.jpg

While not the best firm nib I have, I had no problem reaching out for it and taking any notes or writing and journaling with it. It does not replace the 51 at the top of the list, but it is a solid performer, with a very consistent fine line and a wet writer for a fine.

The writing is rougher than the 51, probably on par with my Waterman Hemisphere. While I would not describe it as scratchy, it has the same gritty feeling to it. It just has more feedback on every kind of paper I tested, from cheap used copy paper for drafts to the high quality paper on my journal; it lets you know exactly the texture of what you are writing on. Maybe it is the firmness of the nib, maybe because it is a fine, most likely a combination of these two factors. I found it a bit distracting at first, but it didn’t take long for me to start enjoying the experience and trying different papers to see how it felt or behaved.

As for the performance I never had a false start or skip. It sometimes threatened me with a small drop on the side of the nib as the pen warmed up, but never really spat any ink under normal circumstances. Still, usual caveats for an ED apply. Better warm it up in your hand before writing, keep the nib up etc…

-Filling System & Maintenance (1-10) - 7 – Eye Dropper only.

As I stated above I have mixed feelings about EDs: love the concept, ink capacity and simple approach, but I dislike the reality of it, the sometimes messy nature of the critters and the long periods using the same ink.

As a work pen, with this ink capacity, it is great. Load it up with your work color (parker Qink Black or Pelikan blue for me) and you are set for a long while. But if you are fond of switching inks very frequently this isn’t the best bet.

-Cost & Value (1-10) – 9 – €50

Honestly, I find this a very good buy. It is a good performer, looks great, if you like the color. In my opinion you get a great pen for this price.

-Conclusion (Final score: 7,7)

It has been a fun pen to test and as I prepare to go overseas again, I’m considering picking a more subtle one and taking it with me as a workhorse, probably with a M nib. As a tool for everyday work it managed to live up to the expectations of a EDC pen. Yes, being an eyedropper, some precautions must be taken, but overall, I went through all the ink I loaded it with only two accidents, both of which my fault. Overall, it looks great, behaves nicely and has ink to spare! A solid choice for a daily writer.

I have mixed feeling regarding my pen. Initially, the feed needed to be extracted and flossed as the flow was impeded. Happily, the pen writes supremely smoothly now. However, the finial is a bit crooked as there isn't a recess in the cap to hold the clip's band. Also, the feed isn't robust enough to reduce/eliminate excessive flow. So, I've have to wipe the section off after uncapping it on a few occasions. Also, although I blocked the vent hole in the cap with wax, I find the nib needs a stroke on the paper to get going after being capped for 24 hours. Here's a quick pic:

fpn_1364529097__rps20130328_202452.jpg

Now, if you've read this far, here's your opportunity. I will send this pen for free to the first to PM me tomorrow after 8:30am EST with a mailing address in the continental US. It's not a bad pen; it's just that I hate to be neglecting my better pens. It would probably be a great desk pen with the clip removed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
