Just Ordered A Polar Lights M640!

After quite a bit of mental wrestling, I finally chose a Polar Lights M640 over the M1000, on the grounds that I can almost certainly get the M1000 as soon as my "pen fund" fills back up, while the Polar Lights won't be around forever. Best price was at Penporium and Dustin special-ordered me an XF nib. Hope it gets here soon!

I bought a Polar Lights in the classifieds. EF nib, very nice pen, very smooth nib. I am glad it has the extra fine nib.

I got mine for Christmas in a medium with a Pelikan leather case to carry it in. The nib is buttery smooth and requires no pressure as it glides across the page. This pen will absolutely spoil you. It recalls a trip to Alaska and the stunning Northern Lights I saw there. Now if I only could afford an Eternal Ice as a remembrance of the blue-white glaciers I saw. Enjoy your pen. Vinper

I have the Sahara. Very smooth, very wet M nib. As I am very fascinated by deserts I just had to have it. Plus, its a Pelikan. Can't really go wrong.

Mine came with a typically wet Pelikan medium nib. I changed it to a broad ground down to a .9 stub by Richard Binder. This nib is now the perfect match with the pen.

I noticed that Penporium sells the Polar Light M640 for $375 and the Special Edition Mount Everest M640 for only $280 (just a few $$ more than I paid for mine). Can anyone explain the difference in pricing for what I believe is essentially the same pen? I know the Polar Lights is a more popular model, does that explain it?

You can find a Polar Lights @ $290 from eBay. The seller, if I remember correctly, has an online store so you can get it in either place

I got really lucky, getting mine for $199 from Oscar Braun pens when Pam Braun was closing shop.

 

I should add that I did have a bit of unluck, in that the nib was scratchy. No amount of alignment or polishing seemed to have any effect, so I eventually contacted Abi at Chartpak, and she exchanged the nib for me. The new nib is, as they say, buttery smooth (like all my other Pelikans).

Note that the photo is of the old nib, and although it's hard to tell from this photo, it was kind of oddly shaped, being sort of flattened when viewed from above or below. The new nib is ball shaped, like all my other Pels.

 

This pen is currently my daily user at work, inked with Pelikan Black (it's been a long time since I liked black ink, and now I do again).
