I'm thinking more nib grinding. Some M nibs need to be massaged into a more svelte form.

But bring the box. The person who needs help left before the suitcase of stuff arrived last week.

I don't get back to the Bay Area until the 14th. :headsmack:

We'll have another near the end of January or early Feb. That will be the pre-LA pen show edition. We will then have one probably the week after the LA Pen Show. You guessed it, the post-LA Pen Show edition.

A question for Todd: Will my pen be ready for pickup by Sunday? If not, there's no emergency, but maybe I'll do something else on Sunday afternoon. All my medium nibs are as narrow as they want to be. AltecGreen's post is frightening them.

For new arrivals, you just won't believe what Todd can do to a nib with a ball-peen hammer. The ball helps if all he needs to do is spread the tines a little. It's really a sight to see.

So after three weeks, we went straight to the big room. Yay!

The turnout has been great this holiday season.

The theme for this Pen Posse was inks and nib grinding/pen repair.

I brought some rare inks and my spare Platinum Mix Free kit.

Todd was set-up for pen repairs.

Todd worked on a Lamy and didn't burst into flames

Everyone brought their toolbox.

Everybody was kung fu fighting.....errr....I mean nib working. I helped newcomer Matt work on his two Italix pens. I smoothed them and made them a touch crisper. I also smoother one of Gail's finds, a Platignum with a flexy italic nib. Todd helped Alexandra narrow some of her nibs. Even Ether got into the act. All in all, a good days work at Pen Posse.

Todd even had time to put an italic grind on a ball point.

Deirdre and Rick were back from travel. She showed off her next trip.

We continued going through Gale's pile of pens after she re-organized them. There were some gems and tragedies.

Four in a row? I suggested weekly through the LA show. I know, I'm not helping. But if anybody wants to come to Marin some night, speak up. We have INO and A&W.

I went to Daiso. They have rubber mallets, you know, in case anybody wants to give pens a more gentle touch.

If you could move that to the weekend of the 26th and 27th, we could have a daily double: Golden Gate Kennel Club Show in the morning, Pen Posse in the afternoon. Doggies AND Pens on one weekend! Whoopee!

The liberty of the press is indeed essential to the nature of a free state; but this consists in laying no previous restraints upon publications, and not in freedom from censure for criminal matter when published. Every freeman has an undoubted right to lay what sentiments he pleases before the public; to forbid this, is to destroy the freedom of the press; but if he publishes what is improper, mischievous or illegal, he must take the consequence of his own temerity. I'm still laughing over Todd's offering to grind my ballpoint to an italic.

Also, I just ordered another TWSBI Mini Classic. This time with a Fine nib. Once it arrives, I'll have two Mini Classics and four nibs. These are good doshgarnit pens!

These steel nibs are great! I love how they feel dancing across the page - smooth on their feet like tap dancers, not ballet, you know, that bit of feedback, like the perfect pencil lead. I love it! Nakaya who?

Ha ha ha, I made myself giggle aloud at work.

Since I missed yesterday's, I could easily go for four in a row. Heck, even if I hadn't missed yesterday I'd say great.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
