Parker 45 Flighter Deluxe

I can't get enough of the P45s. I started collecting these in the 80s. Over the last two to three years my collction of only 14k gold nibbed P45 early flighters (plastic and gold/silver barrel end caps) as well insignia has reached some 130 pens. A good numbers of these are NOS with all the paperwork, original boxes, the early fat squeeze converters and pack of four cartridges.

I have variety of nib sizes on my P45s including some rare monstrous nibs.

I too have a good number of the plastic body P45s including the Happy colors.

And I am still picking up these. No end in sight.

Parker 45, one my all-time favorites. Unfortunately my flighter, one which was one of the first fountain pens I had and probably also the one I used most frequently for a few years, recently broke. It was unusued for some longer time, and when I wanted to unscrew it and fill it, the threads fell apart. I decided to get a new one and two weeks ago my new Parker 45 flighter came. The new one is actually older than the old one, as the first I had was from 2007, the last year the model was produced I think, while the "new" one is from 1995.

I also have one more, an older one I think, plastic with "rolled gold" cap. I think it was made in 1960's or 1970's, but I can't find any date codes.

I once thought about collecting more of them, but somehow nothing ever came of it.

I also bought a "new" one based this thread

It looked a bit rough and, thus it was cheap in the auctionsite. It was dirty, the nib and feed took a half day of soaking before I could take them apart. Easy to disassemble, clean and dry

The outside was dirty as well, but the stainless came clean from a few rubs with scotch brite pads.

The filler/converter rubber sac leaks, but it works fine with cartridges

The nib is a M in 10K gold, nice and smooth, no complaints from me.

I'm using Parker Quink (blue-black) and it is just fine.. wooohhooooo

I have four 45 Flighters, all of them just a little different. None as nice as yours. Great find. Thanks for showing us.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
