Thank you for the info, confirming what I had researched.

Btw are you a fan of the Jays?

You can try Wonder pens for accessories inks and paper. If you are looking for pens to see in person Laywines has the widest selection in Toronto.

bluejay,

I am just getting back into the habit of writing with a fountain pen, but I value both modern and vintage pens equally.

I think that I may come by to one of the meets before visiting any stores.

Thank you for the advice.

PS: if anyone has a blue or black bottle they would like to get rid off and maybe a pen they don`t use, please bring it to the next meet; I would love to purchase these items off you :)

Just trying to understand how this works: the next meet should be on Sunday October 20th and the location will be the CAMH unless otherwise discussed (as was the case for this month). Hmmm not sure I can wait long enough till then, lol!

There was talk about moving the meets to a bar nearby. Maple are you over 18? If not then we would have to move it to a local restaurant instead.

I didn't know about the bar idea. Dim lighting and crowded seating doesn't seem appropriate for a pen meet.

Edit: If CAMH is no longer available, I may have a long term solution. I'll check with Saskia

I will turn 18 on October 14th so do not worry about moving your location just for me.

Well it was suggested by raging_dragon. Ask him if it has good enough lighting.

The place I was thinking of was a pub, I believe they'll admit all ages, they just can't serve alcohol to anyone under 19.

There are many places we could meet; however, in most cases the owners would want want us to either: buy a meal or pay an admission or booking fee. It's the requirement for a free of charge meeing place that makes this difficult. Perhaps we should just meet at a food court in one of the Yorkville area malls (Cumberland Terrace, Manulife Centre, 60 Bloor West, and Hudson Bay Centre)? I'm currently working in the area so I can scout for the nicest food court.

Yorkville is easily accessible from both the Bloor and Yonge subway lines and it's close to Laywine's and the MB Boutique. We could also meet near Wonderpens (Bathurst & Dundas), Essence du Papier (Yonge & Eglinton), or Write Impressions (Bayview & Millwood); however, these locations will be harder for alot of us to get to.

I cannot confirm my joining the next meeting, but if I can in a week or less, I could book the OISE Library study room.

Edit: I will post if I am able to book one of these rooms and meet up. But would like to point out that on a Sunday the hours are limited to 1pm to 6pm.

I've been meaning to make it out to a meeting for months but was busy with finishing my Master's and am now recovering from surgery. Hopefully I'll be well enough to make it out to the October meeting. I'll bring along my selection of vintage pens for sale as well!

VINTAGE PENS FOR SALE! Various brands all restored and ready to go! Check out the pics and let me know if you have any questions.

My ideal is to do OISE on Saturdays (if I can reliably get someone to book it every other month), and CAMH on Sundays. And to continue looking for a free place to replace CAMH. Maybe we should move the time of the meet on Sundays to accommodate OISE? What do you guys think?

Trade ya!

Does any body want two almost new bottles of Sailor's nano black and blue document inks? I got them three weeks ago @ $30 each, used them once, but found that they were too high maintenance for my preference. Would be happy with a couple of other low-maintenance ink in return. PM me if you are interested and i'll carry them along for the next meet.

Cheers!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
