Ebay #230897445429

Hi

I noticed that this dealer had a number of very standard looking Watermans. The auctions started at 0.01 Euro, but the postage was absurd. On the one above, he wanted 429.99 Euro for shipping to Israel!

Can anybody explain what the guy is up to?

A link would have been helpful, but without bothering to go look it up, I'd say he's fishing for idiots. I mean, doesn't that shipping charge just completely tip you off that this is not a seller to be trusted?

It's an old fraudulent listing technique and has been banned by ebay for years now. You can try reporting them under 'account security > seller is attempting to avoid paying fees' but it's a toss up whether ebay will actually do anything.

If I wanted the pen and was the unlucky winner, I would wait until the pen arrived then report him to ebay. That way ebay would take action against the seller and would probably refund any shipping price over what it actually cost to ship and pack it.

this sort of thing throws off my bay trawling techniques  using price as one of my filters.

Yeah... I don't know about the ratings system anymore :( Logically there is no reason to distrust them, but I have had several instances in the last year where I have been let down despite 99+% ratings from sellers.

If someone is going to try to cheat eBay, it stands to reason they will do the same to you.

But he does have 100% feedback....... :hmm1:

To be safer, I generally buy from sellers that might have the following characteristics:

1. Fast reply to questions

2. High percentage rating (does not need to be perfectly 100%)

3. High rating (1000's preferable, but >200 ok)

4. Great written feedback consistently over time

5. Has sold other items as high a value (or greater) that you are buying

So, it's not just about having a 100% rating, as it is very easy to get negative feedback that does not indicate your selling habits.

The seller has sold items with the shipping being the buy-it-now price. In November is seemed like proper auctions and now in December it's the "odd" way of doing it.

If you had a dispute with this seller and wanted a refund, would you get the shipping cost back?

It seems like a nice way (for the seller) of getting out from having to refund the money on defective or otherwise unsatisfactory merchandise. The item cost only a penny...

In case of a return due to item being not as described, the buyer is fully covered for the original transaction value. i.e. item plus shipping price. Return shipping is on the buyer as per ebay.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
