Looks like the rumors were true. Pelikan will be producing a M800 in Tortoiseshell Brown with expected delivery set for February of 2013.

The unique brown tortoiseshell barrel is in the trademark Pelikan striated design and is perfectly complimented by dark brown resin parts and 24c gold plated trim. It will come with a two-tone 18k gold nib available officially in Fine, Medium and Broad. Other widths may be available depending on the retailer.

It appears to be a one time production of very limited numbers. The Pelikan Souverän M800 in Tortoiseshell Brown will be available as a fountain pen (£425.00 including VAT at 20%), rollerball (£250) and ball pen (£215). No word yet on US pricing or availability.

Dan we need you to organize the Fountain Pen Geek fan army in a special group buy to get the pricing in line with what we pen lovers can afford. If the FPN forum can organize for purchases of custom made ltd editions we need to approach Pelikan on a forum or FPGeek special pricing so the product moves off them shelves and into our loving inky fingers!

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Everytime I look at that picture I have to control the buying impulse...

But I think Pelikan should first start making softer-tipped nibs with some feedback, because that's what a pen like this deserves, in stead of a numb-feeling golden 'nail' without any 'feedback'.

The old style (1980s) M800 nib is already a lot better, but hard to get these days, and, of course, not new.

I wish the sort of nib the M1000 is equipped with, would be available in smaller versions for the M400-600-800...

Taste differs.

One man's masterpiece is another's garbage.

Of all the Pelican trims, I think the Tortoise is the second least attractive, next to the Majesty (ick).

It will be interesting to see how this sells on the market, the final decider of something or the other (opinions differ on that too). I was surprised how the M600 green 'o greens disappeared at MSRP, while the Blue 'O Blue ended up clearing out at the usual discount for an M800.

YMMV

I'm a bit curious on pricing with these. I pre-ordered mine from Regina Martini (martiniauctions.com) at a cost of around $475 (depending on the Euro conversion that day). Yet I see multiple retailers/pen sellers (many on this board) selling them from around $600.

Am I missing something?

Regina still has multiple left for anyone that wants one at the lower price just an FYI..

$475 is ALMOST within my reach. But I am saving my lunch money toward a M700 Toledo so I will be missing out on this offering.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
