I look forward to this as well, even though I do not have as many of the old style tortoise M800s as you do!

Great news! :clap1: M800 tortoise is my favorite

Nice pen!

I also have some De Atramentis ink, Golf tinte with the smell of mown grass. Does the christmas ink also have a specific smell?

I like this cute label. Plan to buy 10 bottles from Franz.

I love the tortoise pens! This one will definitely be at the top of my must-have list, preferably with a Mottishaw BB or BBB stub.

Looks like the rumors were true. Pelikan will be producing a M800 in Tortoiseshell Brown with expected delivery set for February of 2013.

The unique brown tortoiseshell barrel is in the trademark Pelikan striated design and is perfectly complimented by dark brown resin parts and 24c gold plated trim. It will come with a two-tone 18k gold nib available officially in Fine, Medium and Broad. Other widths may be available depending on the retailer.

It appears to be a one time production of very limited numbers. The Pelikan Souverän M800 in Tortoiseshell Brown will be available as a fountain pen (£425.00 including VAT at 20%), rollerball (£250) and ball pen (£215). No word yet on US pricing or availability.

Congrats!

I just walked into a Pelikan Humankind LE for a nice price. So afraid I gonna miss the tortoise one...

btw, Watching some youtubemovies on Japanese penmakes posten by FPN user VirtuThe3rdTV:

Showing the manufacturer of Hakase pens, I saw they sell some really nice tortoise shell pens. However they can't ship it abroad since its forbidden to do so with tortoiseshell.

So the pelikans must have be made of "fake" tortoiseshell.

Does anyone know if the old pelikans (400 brown tortoise for example) do have real tortoiseshell?

Wow. So much for my New Years' Resolution to cut back on my pen buying this year... Does anyone know what color the cap will be? The write-up says, "perfectly complimented by dark brown resin parts" but when you zoom in on the picture, it sure looks black.

Well, I'm presuming it will be dark brown, like the other bits. Don't know for sure though - it will be a nice surprise when I open the box!

However, as for ink in it though; there's a different story. I've a couple in mind...

It is the 175th birthday of the Pelikan firm next year (2013), I read a special Souverän is introduced for this reason; will that be the same pen as the mentioned brown tortoise?

It is a nice pen, but I am not going to pay +35% or more just for a pretty colour.

So I'll pass on this one.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
