Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Definitely my round-ended school pens. Good 304 or 305 nibs (or their later F/M equivalents on the flat-ended variant) are incredibly smooth, they use current cartridges and you can check ink levels with the translucent/transparent barrel versions, a good one will start first time even after being ignored for a fortnight ... cheap, and nice colours.

And they're over 50 years old with that sense of history in them. In their own quiet way they're a classic ...

Sheaffer Touchdown Imperial, inlaid fine nib.  The newer Imperials with the converters are OK too.

The Touchdown is a reasonable resac and refurb job, easier than doing an Esterbrook.  I love the desk pens too.  An old Parker 51 cap will fit them.

They took the blue from the skies and the pretty girls' eyes and a touch of Old Glory too . . .
