This is an interesting web-site attended the most amiable persons who know to bottom the world of the pen and therefore I ask as never I find null nearly on Manos; this pen for me represents a mystery, dulls outside from the dusk of the history, has not found notiziie, designs catalogues, null... as it is possible?

Hi,

If you know Italian, you could write this post in Italian which I can understand. Then I will respond in English.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

Hi,

my son laughed a lot because of the e-mail I wrote you. Excuse me for the horrible english:

Ho acquistato recentemente alcune penne stilografiche Manos-Austria.

Thanks a lot

Fabrizio

Hi,

How does the pen fill? Again answer in Italian, then I'll see what needs to be done to your pen. :)

This is the Manos.

Se ruoti la rotellina in fondo alla penna, la vescica dovrebbe strizzarsi e rilasciando la rotellina dovrebbe caricare l'inchiostro, se ho capito bene.

Yes, welcome Fabrizio - and a warm welcome to your son who I suspect has assisted with the English posts - his English is excellent, and I suspect yours would pick up quickly if you continued practising in english on the board.

By all means continue in Italian with Dillo, but please don't be afraid to chat with the rest of us in English. We'll be patient... :)

Best Regards,

Gerry

It sounds like a twist-filler. Try to unscrew the grip section to see if it comes off. Some grip sections pull out instead of unscrew and some grip sections unscrew in the opposite direction.

Hello Dillon,

Ciao

They are twist fillers - turn the nob at the end one way and it empties, turn the nob the other way and it fills.

Be warned - I have one like this, and it does not work by capillary action. You have to turn the nob to push a drop of ink into the feed, write for a while, then turn the nob again to get more ink to the feed. They were not particularly valuable pens.

John

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

I have another one, and it has been sitting in my bench for months. I just cannot figure out how to open it: nothing that twists off, no visible separation between section and body... Quite the enigma.

E, Fabrizio, benvenuto nell forum.

The problem with ideas is that good ideas and bad ideas look about the same until you put them into practice.

I have one of these too- I got it as the only bidder on an auction for $0.99. The feed is bizzare, and it seems to be made of chased celluloid. Are we sure it's a twist filler? It seems to be a piston filler, and I've seen other German piston fillers with a similar barrel end. I can feel a cork/seal moving up and down the pen. Mine actually draws in some water OK, but I'm sure it needs to be properly recorked.

The nib it came with was steel and completely corroded. An weird little pen, to be sure.

My nib appears to be gold plated but it is also corroded and/or encrusted with ink residue. If your nib is not pitted and rusted to bad there is a way to get the rust off of it that museums use but if it is plated it might also remove that. I use it to derust tools that I restore, it's called electrolysis. I have thought about using it on some of my FP nibs.

If you are interested I can explain how to do it.

I have one of these pens - it looks perfect, but has no Nib. Any idea which Nib I should use?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
