thanks! i like the way you do your colour swathes.... there's seems to be some order in that randomness....

i must say the 54th mass looks rather subdued for a blue.

I like your ink sample comparisons because you put a couple of contrasting colors besides the ones you're focussing on. The pap you use has a white dot effect under the ink swabs. Nice

All the best, Ingrid

Thanks; I actually did this from a hotel room using ordinary tissue and semi random movement :)

Thanks - I try to do that as I like using contrasting colors; that paper is the Levenger Behance Dot Grid Journal - very smooth!

I had been less than intrigued by the new Noodlers inks, until I saw this! Now, I want to paint with them happyberet.gif Really beautiful in large swatches.

Just when I thought I was growing tired of blue-blacks in favor of brighter colors, it's the blue black that stands out to me. It reminds me of deep water. Nice job.

Thanks; this is actually how I get interested...I'll swab 'em on paper and then make a decision which I'm interested in right away. I keep the sheet in my journal and come back to it every so often to see if I want to use the others.

Me too, thanks; I love the blue-black, enough for it to make it into one of the ink pots I carry with me on long trips. It's elegant enough to use on any signed docs, but U still like the Elysium's brightness. The duller Mass. will have to wait a bit ;)

Very nice. Thank you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know how Noodler's 54th Massachusetts compares to Van Gogh Starry Night? I have a sample of 54th Massachusetts, but it is too gray for my tastes and am considering Van Gogh Starry Night as a darker blue-black.

Thanks!

Looks lovely. I am hot-cold and trying out the Noodlers, Plains of Abraham in an inexpensive twsbi pen as I think the ink as lovely as it is may be a slightly more stubborn ink and may stain the sight windows on a better pen. Does anyone know for sure if it is like a BSB?

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

I tend to agree, it's the more artistic side of this website that I like the best :).

Thanks for the kind words; I try to give some ideas that might complement the wonderful, more structured reviews here. I hope to someday make a book up of all these swabs; I actually snuck into the color copier room at my HQ and did a few and was very surprised at the accuracy of the output. I keep all these originals in my Levenger Circa journals, so it might be an interesting project, although you'll have to hunt for the color you want, but that's the fun :)

Where can one find the Black & Blue $100,000? I can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Nevermind, I found it under Q'ternity :P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
