Noodlers Nikita Free Ed "review"

I saw a review of the Preppy ED that comes with some Noodlers Inks, but no review for this pen. It is a neat little pen that is a nice bonus to the ink it accompanies. In the second picture below, the pens photographed (from top to bottom) are the Noodlers Nikita Free ED, the Platinum Preppy Free ED that comes with Noodlers Baystate Blue (among other colors) and the Noodlers Ahab. I thought it fitting to keep with the Noodlers theme and photograph only Noodlers pens. If Noodlers sold paper, I would have used some, but instead I had to use Staples Sustainable Earth Bargasse.

Please note: this "review" was photographed using a camera phone under office lights. This should not be used to judge the color or other properties of the ink.

Please forgive the "typos" in the handwriting below.

How recently did you get the ink with that pen? I really want one of those red eyedroppers.

I will gladly take your unwanted Noodler's pens. Don't throw them away.

I have one of these from my last Goulet order that also included the Ahab. The Ahab is good enough to be an EDC pen, while the free ED is more of a toy. The ED works ok when mostly full, giving a wet, medium-fine line. But, it suffers all the classic ED problems once it get to about half full and the nib dries out fairly quick. I'm not discouraging anyone from buying Nikita, it's a great ink IMHO, but I wouldn't buy it for the pen.

I got one of these ink/pen combos last year. Even when not in use, the ink evaporates quite quickly. Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

Hey, it's a free pen!

I certainly would not mind having one of those, I thought Nathan ships converted Preppys with the Nikita nowadays. That said, being in Australia, things are a bit different!

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Agreed. I bought a bottle w/ pen from Isellpens about 2 mos ago. The ink is great, a nice bright red. The pen is exactly as advertised, a freebie, and you get what you pay for.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
