More Purse Pens

I was posting a response at another message board about the purse pens and so, I thought I would post the images here as well, just for smiles:

Topto Bottom India Pearl, Borneo Pearl, and a sad example of Ceylon Pearl. You already saw David i's Canton Pearl.

Commonly thought of as purse pens, but not, are the "Clasp Pens" that are about 5/16" longer than those labeled "Ladies' Purse Models" by Wahl-Eversharp in the catalog. In Wahl-speak of the era that these pens hail from, "Clasp" means the little clips as shown on the pens in these photos, as opposed to "Side Clip", which was the traditional roller ball full size clip. Here is an example of the "clasp model Flamingo. http://www.frontiernet.net/~rtfuss/pictures/eversharp_0416.jpg (Image credit: tjfuss)

This pen also came in Jet Black, Black and Pearl, Jade and Kashmir Pearl

This is my one purse pencil. Wish it had a pen to go with it. Nice color, though.

Thanks so much for the info re: the Wahl "Clasp Pens", Syd! I have one in Jade that I got a few years ago. Newbie that I was back then, I thought it was a no-name Wahl clone because I couldn't find the manufacturer's name on the barrel

(I later found it on the *cap*, right above the two cap rings  )

Thanks also to David I. and Shari for posting pics of these nice little Wahls... :)

Shari,

The Purse Pens should carry a Wahl Evershap or Eversharp #2 nib or a warranted #3. (Odd number Warranted are the same size as the next lower even number Wahl Eversharp nibs so for example a Warranted 3= a Wahl 2 and a Warranted 7= Wahl 6). The Bantams, and their (similar size-wise predecessors - the diminuative metal ring tops of the 20's- were supplied, as you noted with "0" size nibs - and the sections are thus different sized as well.

Hope that helps answer you question.

What about the Clasp Pens, Syd, what type of nib came with them?

Mine has a replacement flexy Moore #2 nib; the original (can't remember the type) had a badly broken tine so I made a deal with my repair guy to keep it and just charge me the difference for the Moore....

Thanks in advance!

The Clasp pens were also #2. If you ever need a replacement Eversharp#2, just holler. I have a bunch and they are far cheaper than repairing an old one -especially a wrong brand old one. ;)

Very kind of you to offer, Syd...I'll keep it in mind! I have some small Wahl All-Metal ringtops with Wahl #2 nibs so I can always swap 'em around if I really feel like it. The Moore is a lot of fun to play with and its my only Moore nib so I think I'll keep using it in the Clasp pen. Thanks again.

Oh and thanks for the info! You're a goldmine of Wah-Eversharpl information, Syd; thank you again for taking on the moderation of this forum. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
